"I truly believe everyone has the ability to 'bloom where they are planted,' and I know that Gamma Phi Beta was the best place for me to reach my highest potential because of the lifelong friendships I have made." Many of Kelly's favorite memories center around living with her sisters at the 808, whether she was rooming with her best friends, painting Christmas houses, or watching soap operas in between classes. Kelly also loved the themed events, and she enjoyed serving as recruitment chairman her sophomore year with her pledge mom, Dana Earley Bowers '95; together, they organized a mock recruitment and invited the moms, grandmothers, and aunts of members to visit during Work Week. "I truly believe that the Gamma Phi Beta sisterhood changed my life," Kelly shared. "Friendships, the intrinsic desire to serve philanthropically, leadership opportunities, responsibilities, organization, efficiency, planning and execution of events, gathering people together, sense of belonging and creating that for others, a greater sense of good, networking, and being a part of the Greek community—my involvement in Alpha Delta as a collegiate member was just the start." Kelly remains proud to be a Gamma Phi. Her husband, David, is a Delt, and seeing their son, Jake, now thrive as president of Delta Tau Delta at Mizzou has made Kelly even more aware of the blessing that Gamma Phi Beta has been to her. "I want to continue to make this possible for future women of Gamma Phi Beta. I want everyone to have the opportunity to learn and grow in this sisterhood!" When Cindy Gates Wood '77 suggested Kelly serve on the Affiliated House Corporation Board, she readily accepted. So far, she has attended several alumnae meetings and reconnected with familiar faces and names. She has found it rewarding to be at the house for events with the members. Having served as administrative vice president her senior year, Kelly understands the collaboration needed between members and alumnae to be successful. She is grateful to the alumnae who made her experience possible and wants to do her part to ensure others have the opportunities and experiences that she has been fortunate to have. Her goal is to encourage alumnae to reengage and help build great futures for the women of Gamma Phi Beta. "I want to remind others that this is a sisterhood for life!" In her career, Kelly has taught first, third, fourth, and fifth grades; special education; and seventh grade social studies. "I have enjoyed the opportunity to learn and grow through change and challenge." Kelly loves hobbies. An avid reader, she reads 80-100 books a year and participates in several book clubs. She enjoys writing, which has led her to create and co-host a podcast, Being Better Humans, in 2020. She also likes thrifting, decorating, cooking, planning and hosting events, and doing puzzles and crafts. Her family members are big Royals and Chiefs fans, and her other son, Matthew, will be attending Mizzou in fall 2025. Kelly remains close with several pledge sisters, and they travel together once a year. She has recently been in contact with others from her pledge class and they are making plans for a reunion and to start gathering regularly as a larger group. "I would love to connect and help reengage others in the sisterhood. There is always a place in Gamma Phi Beta for you! Please feel free to reach out via social media or email at kellyshomin@hotmail.com." Gamma Phi FOR LIFE Sisters of the 1996 initiation class in March 2024.
