SIGMA NU 2 Inside Updates and Modernization ____________ In our winter 2024 newsletter, we shared exciting updates about the exterior improvements and kitchen renovation at the Sigma Nu chapter house. This time, we're focusing on interior upgrades. Our goal is to modernize essential systems, create new spaces, and enhance the living environment, all while preserving the charm of our 108-year-old building. Thanks to the generous gift from Carol and Gordy Richards '54 and the dedication of Jeff Roberts '80, we've made significant progress. Functional Improvements _____________________ A key improvement has been the replacement of the chapter house's century-old oil-burning boiler. We've installed a modern natural gas heating system, which is more energy-efficient and safer. The old oil tank has also been decommissioned, and new water heaters have been added to further improve overall efficiency. Interior Updates ______________________________ Several interior updates have been made to enhance both comfort and functionality. The hearth area has received new lighting and ceiling repairs, brightening the space and making it more inviting. Additionally, a new stairway from the exterior porch to the basketball court has been added to improve accessibility. Two older study/sleep rooms have been converted into modern spaces, setting the stage for future room upgrades. A new second- floor bathroom and showers, complete with heated flooring, now offer added comfort for our members. The second-floor porch has been transformed into a multifunctional space, which now includes: • Two new study/sleep rooms • A new conference room • Additional storage space Fun Additions _________________________________ We've also added vibrant Sigma Nu-themed graphics throughout the chapter house. A winding snake now leads to the dining room, while the Sigma Nu letters are displayed over the Rose and Sword. On the third floor, the Sigma Nu Crest proudly stands. Additionally, the Sigma Nu Creed is displayed in Husky colors on the newly renovated second-floor porch. One of the standout features is the 22-foot-wide custom mural in the new second-floor conference room. Captured from the top of the UW Tower, this stunning mural offers a unique and inspiring view of the UW campus. Looking Ahead ________________________________ We're planning updates to the main-level porch in spring 2025, which will include new security doors and resurfacing. We're also in the planning stages for potential improvements to the third- floor porch, ensuring the chapter house continues to evolve and meet the needs of our members.
