A s president of Alphu Nu Chapter, I am pleased to reflect on how the Hutt has been doing regarding achievements, academics, philanthropy, and campus involvement. This past summer, Alpha Nu received the Francis H. Sisson Award, which is presented to chapters based on outstanding chapter excellence. To be eligible, a chapter must meet 23 separate criteria. Regarding academics, our chapter ended the fall 2024 semester with a 3.79 cumulative GPA, and 37 members received a 4.0. This does not happen without the senior class posting an outstanding 3.77. Our philanthropic efforts included hosting the Buckets for Luke sorority basketball tournament again this year in support of Luke Karel '26. We are happy to share that he is back in Lawrence, and although he is not able to live in the Hutt due to health reasons, he is living in an apartment right next door and able to be at the house daily. The tournament was a great success, and we raised over $20,000 for charities. There were guest appearances from over a dozen student-athletes from Hunter Dickenson to Devin Neal. We are thankful for all the support we received from parents and alumni. On The Hill, our involvement remains strong. Members are active in select programs, including the SELF Engineering Fellows Program, Business Leadership Program, Student Senate, and Jennett Finance Scholars Program (5 of 18 of this year's cohort are Alpha Nus). Our members also continue to hold many leadership positions on the Rock Chalk Revue advisory board. The executive producer for this year's show was Fitz Horn '25. Regrettably, Alpha Nu received disciplinary action from the General Fraternity in September due to a hazing incident. After their investigation concluded, active members completed a number of directives regarding and addressing hazing prevention and fraternity risk management policy. Internally, the advising team and Officers Club identified areas of weakness within the pledgeship program and addressed them head-on. Pledgeship was modified, and the freshmen still had a relatively normal pledgeship experience. Going forward, we have identified that specifically our orientation period must be less intimidating, as freshmen are already stressed out with the new setting of college and are more likely to view activities as hazing. The class of 2028 was initiated on January 26, 2025 and the Hutt has been at an all-time high with camaraderie amongst classes. I can sincerely say Alpha Nu has made great strides this year in all aspects of life at the Hutt, and I look forward to continuing our success and upholding our time-honored traditions.
