His destinations included Amsterdam (in honor of his Dutch roots), London, Istanbul, Cairo, Rome, and many more, before he chose to live in Paris—until his money started running out. He then caught an Air Force charter from Paris to McGuire Air Force Base, taking a bus to Cincinnati where a friend picked him up. His three-and-a-half- year adventures abroad completed, Jay began a decades-long career in sales and real estate. LIVED E XPERIENCES With a passion for volunteerism, Jay has repeatedly invoked the Jordan Standard in organizations such as the Boy Scouts (often in leadership training and sometimes with the young scouts themselves). He's been involved with Cincinnati's Friends of the Library board for years, which raises money for children's library programs. The list also includes church programs, civic projects, and mission trips with his daughter and granddaughter. Through Cincinnati's sister city program, Jay once visited Kharkiv, Ukraine, presenting a seminar on commercial real estate. Official volunteer roles aren't Jay's only lasting connection to Sigma Chi. He's part of a poker club that began in 1956 (alongside original member Bill Johnson) and joins frequent alumni lunches throughout the year. "I've been told we're the only fraternity at UC with such a strong alumni presence," he said. "You can't put a value on 70-year relationships. We've rode the highs and lows together, always there when a brother needs a shoulder." Jay resides in Cincinnati and can be reached at jaydewitt36@yahoo.com. You can't put a value on 70-year relationships.
