3 E psilon Chapter has made tremendous strides throughout the 2024-25 school year. We are proud to have welcomed 21 members from our fall 2024 pledge class. These young men show immense promise in both leadership and academics. Among them, Fraters Isaac Heffernan '24 E-2551 and Jackson Johnson '24 E-2537 have joined our executive board, serving as our histor and grammateus, respectively. The cumulative GPA of our new members is another point of pride. This class achieved a 3.46 GPA for the fall semester, with 11 making the dean's list (3.5) and two earning a 4.0. As a Chapter, we boast a 3.29 GPA, which is 6.47% higher than last semester and 0.54 above our Chapter requirement. In philanthropy, our Chapter has seen great success. Before every home football game, we emptied our cars from our parking lot and sold the spaces to visitors, continuously raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We consistently sold out and were highly successful in this endeavor. In September, we hosted our fraternity car wash, Suds and Studs, and in October, we held our haunted house, Screams, once again. The Fraters worked tirelessly setting up and performing at these philanthropy events, achieving record-breaking fundraising results. We were tasked with raising $32,000 for St. Jude this year and managed to surpass the halfway point during our first semester. We are looking forward to our next philanthropy event, Mac Attack, a mac and cheese fundraiser in collaboration with the sisters of Tri Delta. Our campus involvement is also stronger than ever before, with two of our Fraters now serving on the Interfraternity Council at Iowa State. Bryce Patten '22 E-2473 and Vasilios Karavitis '23 E-2509 hold the positions of vice president of scholarship and vice president of philanthropy, respectively. They also attended the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values. Our members have shown great interest in improving their leadership skills this year. Twenty-five Fraters traveled to Chicago to attend our national Regional Leadership Conference. I had the opportunity to speak at this conference, share my experience with Epsilon Chapter, and inspire others to reach new heights. Overall, we are incredibly proud of what our Fraters have been able to accomplish. Our men have become leaders both inside and outside of the classroom, which shows a true commitment to excellence. Already in the spring semester, we are excited to build on our success, strengthen our brotherhood, and truly become Better Men for a Better World. Yours in the Bond, George Tchakanakis '23 E-2511 Prytanis Like Bill encouraging George to join TKE, all it takes is one person to change a life. You can be the one to change the life of a young Iowa State man by submitting a recruitment referral. Any of our recruitment chairmen would be ecstatic to receive information about potential new members from alumni. Please provide the PNM's phone number, hometown, interests, and any other relevant information. Recruitment Chairmen: Recruitment referrals help our organization grow and change men's lives for the better. On November 15, Epsilon Chapter initiated 21 men into the brotherhood. The new members were eager to finally be true members of TKE. Epsilon Chapter's newest officers transitioned into power on December 9. There was a tall, raw-boned Latvian named George Burkards '61 E-739, who was one of the best players on the court. He was a landscape architecture major. Whenever possible, I joined his team, and we rarely lost. I knew he would be a huge addition to our fraternity intramural team and began talking to him about TKE and joining a fraternity. He was a confirmed independent but finally agreed to come over to the house for a dinner. He loved it and pledged in time to join our basketball team. We won the interfraternity championship that season, beating the Delta Sigs in the final game. The Delta Sigs were led by my future brother-in-law, Dick Kasperek. Dick was an all-conference center on the Cyclone football team and went on to play for the St. Louis Cardinals. George met and married a girl from Alpha Chi Omega, whom he would never have met had he not joined TKE. He always gave me credit for convincing him to try fraternity life. It led to a basketball championship and a wonderful marriage.
