It is that of Bruce Sullivan '68. Bruce "Silky" Sullivan graduated from Iroquois High School in Watseka, Illinois, in 1964, where he had been the quarterback of the football team. He was recruited by coach Pete Elliot to play for the Illini and was converted to the defensive cornerback position. Jim Chesrown '67 recruited him to join DU, and he was Jim's roommate in the house. Jim and Chuck Zdenek '67 were very knowledgeable sports fans and staunch Illini supporters. They watch numerous game films with Bruce. During the 1966 season, Bruce was at one corner, with Mickey Smith at the other corner and Phil Knell at safety. Bruce made All-Big Ten status as well as third team All-American. This was due to leading the conference in interceptions with nine, including one returned for 97 yards for a touchdown against Purdue and one for 99 yards for a touchdown against Michigan. After spending some time on the Redskins roster, he took a job with Eastern Airlines in Miami and married his high school sweetheart, Sandy, with whom he had two sons. He later moved to Norman, Oklahoma, taking a position with Coca Cola Bottling. He passed away in March 2005. Bruce was popular at the house after home games, at Homecoming, and especially on Dad's Day. IF DU WALLS COULD TALK DU Welcomes Honorary Initiate Alex Uswajesdakul A ll our grandsons are legacies, but my grandson, Alex, won't be going to college. He was born with HIE, a medical condition in which you are born and deprived of oxygen too long. The result is like cerebral palsy. He does go to school, at least for a little while longer. Well, I contacted our international office, which got in touch with our alumni board, and they were happy to award Alex an honorary membership to DU. Now, we have a new brother, Alex Uswajesdakul.
