Page 3 Delta upsilon E mily Levine, our Chapter's new housemother, has two adult daughters, Carson and Beatrice. She never had a son, but as she says: "I now have 50 sons at Delta Upsilon." Emily began living at 1025 Emery before the fall 2023 semester and is enjoying her second year. Emily's Background Emily was a longtime Johnson County Community College employee, serving as the lead testing specialist. Many collegians, especially online students, were required to show up at the testing center on campus and take their exams before a proctor. She was a supervisor for this process, which required her to be organized and plan logistics. Ready for a change, Emily found reason to consider Lawrence: her two adult daughters already lived there! Beatrice is a member of Sigma Kappa, and Carson works as a realtor with John Esau '78 at Keller- Williams Real Estate in Lawrence. Handling the House Emily can be described as a hands-on leader. She meets with repairmen and other vendors when they visit the house and ensures the facility is in good shape. When a new carpet was recently laid on the second floor, she made sure it was done right. A former Army spouse, she had lived in Germany and many other locations, making Emily easily adaptable to change. She has overseen many Chapter House updates and indicates the building needs a new HVAC system. KU Connections Most importantly, Emily loves the young men in Delta Upsilon and is very active in social aspects of the house. She loves to attend KU sporting events and indicated that Ruthie Rinehart, the widow of DU benefactor Tom Rinehart '57, often invites her to sit in their skybox at football games. "Ruthie has been very generous and made me feel welcome," she added. Emily grew up in northern Florida, near Live Oak, where her dad was a farmer. "He grew tobacco, but one Sunday, he heard a sermon about cancer and decided he would not grow any more tobacco. He switched to growing watermelon, cantaloupe, corn, peanuts, soybeans, and other fruits and vegetables," she said. Emily lives in the house year-round, accompanied by her goldendoodle, Grady, whom the members consider part of the family. She is quick to credit alumni, the parents' group, and members for her success. "One member, Kenzy Rolley '25, named DU Chapter President of the Year by DU International, will be missed. This fall is his last semester. He put so much work into helping the Chapter recharter; I hope he enjoys his semester this fall and has some fun," she said. "The new president for this year is Connor Bell '26, so Kenzy should have more time to enjoy campus life." She says that sometimes, life at DU is "just as crazy as one would think," but members are respectful and she is able to have plenty of peace and quiet. She encourages DU alumni to stop by the house to say hello and reconnect. new HouseMotHer eMily levine Brings entHusiasM to 1025 eMery road Check Out What the Undergraduates Have Been Up to!
