Oak Lane Triumph Virginia Kappa | Virginia Tech | Winter 2025 T he Virginia Kappa AVC and undergraduate chapter had a terrific start to the 2024-25 school year. Here are a few of our fall achievements: VIRGINIA KAPPA SCHOLARS The spring 2024 Fraternity and Sorority Life Academic Report noted that 14 Virginia Kappa members achieved a GPA of 4.0, and more than 60 members made the dean's list once again. Meanwhile, all members maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.4. The chapter's academic standing on campus among all undergraduate organizations remains superior! FALL RECRUITMENT We had 20 members join Virginia Kappa in September. This brings chapter membership up to almost 140 strong, sustaining a healthy, active, and balanced SigEp chapter! BALANCED MAN SCHOLARSHIP CEREMONY The chapter recently awarded six BMS scholarships to undergraduates. This included four current members and two potential members receiving $1,000 and $500 scholarships drawn from the AVC's SigEp Educational Foundation fund account. WELCOME HOME On November 8, 2024, Virginia Kappa hosted a "Welcome Home" reception during the Clemson game weekend at the Chapter House. Virginia Kappa alumni, spouses, and guests, in addition to undergraduate members, were in attendance. The following day, the joint chapter/AVC meeting was held prior to the Clemson football game. After a chapter update provided by the EC officers, the AVC approved their new bylaws reflecting a name change, updated job descriptions, and more for a document that was almost 20 years old! NEW EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OFFICERS ELECTED A new EC was elected on November 9, and a transition meeting was conducted on BALANCED MEN ON CAMPUS December 7, facilitated by Zach Hoopes '17. During the discussion, outgoing and incoming officers set goals and objectives for the coming year. Chapter Counselor Jay Sage '84 assisted, with help from Ritche Moore '85, Woody McIlhenny '20, Cooper Whiteleather '23, and Anthony Hinojosa '24. FUNDRAISING APPEAL As part of our contract with SigEp National Headquarters and Pennington & Company, more than 1,200 alumni will receive a fundraising appeal email and physical mailing to request donations for the Robert M. Bennett Virginia Kappa SigEp Learning Community Support Fund or the Balanced Man Scholarship Fund. These funds provide the AVC with maximum flexibility to support the chapter's immediate needs with financial aid, leader training, graduate stipends, guest speakers, and mental health fitness. We appreciate any financial support you can provide for Virginia Kappa in the new year. Your contributions also set the stage for a robust Balanced Man recruiting effort in 2025. HFF, Ritche Moore '85 AVC Secretary Viriginia Kappa undergraduates receive their BMS scholarships. With more than 252,000 living alumni, SigEp has a network of knowledgeable brothers to help young members prepare for nearly any career. Currently, more than 1,600 undergraduate brothers have taken advantage of personalized career coaching from alumni within their desired field. SigEp's goal is to ensure each undergraduate brother receives career coaching to prepare him for the next step after graduation. Interested in becoming a career coach?
