ALPHA TAU OMEGA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI H SPRING 2025 G amma Rho had another fantastic fall semester in 2024! It started off strong as Chapter President Bill Powers '22 and Vice President James Murray '22 traveled to Tucson, Arizona, for the 86th Alpha Tau Omega National Congress. It was there they accepted the Recruitment Excellence Award and the True Merit Award on behalf of our Chapter. We are honored to receive these awards from ATΩ Nationals and are determined to continue this high quality into the future. Philanthropy This year during our philanthropy week, Gamma Rho hosted various events to raise charitable dollars. A scary Haun"Tau"ed House, Tots with the Taus late-night dinner, and Friday night backyard cookout helped us raise over $25,000 for Coyote Hill, a local foster care service in Columbia. Bill Powers and Philanthropy Chairman Ben Herweck '23 did a fantastic job coordinating the week's festivities. This fall, we also competed in the Mizzou Lacrosse Cup for the second year in a row. ATΩ and Delta Tau Delta defeated Delta Upsilon and Beta Theta Pi while raising nearly $10,000 for the Day Dreams Foundation. Brotherhood and Academics Our fall brotherhood events included the DK Memorial Classic Golf Tournament, the 100th annual cornjigger, our formal in Nashville, Tennessee, and Dad's Weekend. The DK Classic tournament is held in honor of Brother Drew King '20, who passed away in 2021. This year, it took place at Lake of the Woods golf course and was won by me and John Guerra '23. We eagled a decisive playoff hole on the way to victory. Cornjigger was a traditional week of fun that included a social, an outdoor East Campus concert with country artist Sequoia Newland, and an Alabama vs. Missouri football watch party. Academically, Gamma Rho had another great semester with a Chapter GPA of 3.17 and 90% of new members with 3.0 or higher. Will We See You at Upcoming Events? So far this semester, Gamma Rho has enjoyed participating in the annual BeStrong29 Foundation Puck Challenge. This game raises money and awareness for the BeStrong29 Foundation (run by Brother Mick Deaver '19), which helps those who suffer from paralysis and spinal cord injuries. ATΩ is also planning its Signature Event the weekend of April 19-20, featuring a philanthropy golf tournament, bar rental, and more! More details will come soon, but make sure to mark your calendars now! For Homecoming weekend, Gamma Rho will rent out an area of Harpo's Bar and Grill for all alumni and families on the evening of Friday, September 26.
