T he Fall 2024 semester at the Pomeroy Chapter House was filled with not only studying and brotherhood but also with hours of community service dedicated to the community and Huntsman Cancer Institute. Kicking off the semester with Derby Diner, undergrads cooked up dinner-time bites and delivered orders to campus, with all proceeds being donated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. This event has been a hit over the past few semesters and has raised hundreds of dollars for HCI. Of course, no Fall semester would be complete without the annual Haunted House! For the 62nd event, the chapter partnered with Alpha Phi to decorate the house to prepare to scare the Pinewoods neighborhood. Even though this was a free event for the community, a bake sale and donations helped raise almost $900 for HCI. In a new event, a few brothers joined other RPI Greek societies in cleaning up the streets of downtown Troy. Opportunities like these that are presented by RPI Fraternity and Sorority Commons help bring us closer to our community and to other Greek groups. And to wrap up volunteer time for the semester, the chapter came together for the annual neighborhood leaf rake. Every year, the brotherhood gathers to continue the tradition of joining together to support the neighborhood. In just one day of raking, the chapter accumulated 140 hours of community service! Events like these that give back to the neighborhood allow the chapter to show its gratitude to the community in which they reside—and that goes both ways. The thanks, appreciation, and baked goods the brothers received from neighbors for their hard work and dedication were much appreciated and drive them to continue this event year after year. The chapter has also hosted smaller events on campus, selling hot cocoa and sweet treats to students between classes. Again, all proceeds from these events go toward HCI in hopes of being the Generation to End Cancer! Chapter Sweetheart Lily Mikell has even joined in the fundraising fun and has been selling Greek Letter apparel, with all proceeds going toward her Sweetheart Challenge for HCI! All of this work would not be possible without each and every brother that has dedicated time out of their busy academic schedules to give back to the community and causes that Sigma Chi Delta Psi holds close!
