e Washington Alpha Delt 7 S teve Loyd '69 was drawn to the history and purpose of ADPhi as well as the mental attitude of the Washington Chapter men. "ere was a quiet confidence—a desire to excel with no need to boast." "We were all young, but some of the men had a depth of character that implied they would do much in their lives. They were the sort of people I wanted to know." Steve enjoyed a formative ADPhi experience. Serving as recruitment chairman, IFC representative, and Chapter president gave him responsibilities and connections throughout the UW community, and the talent around him and his competitive nature contributed to his academic success and developed good habits. Steve graduated as a first-generation student with degrees in history and psychology, then went on to earn advanced degrees in finance and law. He began his career in the Seattle City government working on policy issues in public safety and justice and Seattle City Light. He was later recruited by Stimson Bullitt to help buy eleven city blocks along First Avenue in downtown Seattle. "We developed the real estate between Pike Market and Pioneer Square in conjunction with Paul Schell and Weyerhaeuser. That project earned multiple awards from the Urban Land Institute and connects downtown Seattle with the waterfront via the Harbor Steps." After working in real estate development, Steve left to form a boutique investment bank helping middle- market companies. He also accepted an affiliate professor position at the Foster School of Business. "The undergraduate students in the business school were a top-quality bunch, and I was deeply honored to collaborate with them." "One day after class, a material scientist introduced himself and said he had an idea for a new material that could improve human health. That new material would later become the foundation for Galahad Life Sciences," Steve shared. "That was when I sold my investment bank, left my UW position, shifted gears to focus on biotechnology, and began working on techniques to extend human lifespan significantly." Steve and his daughter, Ashley, are the co-founders of Galahad Life Sciences, where Steve is CEO. "Galahad Life Sciences is the culmination of 20 years of work in material science and biotechnology. We have 12 patents—four have my name on them. It has been great fun solving a deep puzzle of biology." "The FDA has recognized our discovery as a 'new dietary ingredient,'" Steve added. "That FDA designation allows us to market the products to consumers based on our double-blind, placebo- controlled studies at MSU Human Performance Lab." In 2023, NION Health was introduced to the market. "NION uses bioelectric nutrition to improve hydration, energy, and performance through improvements in mitochondrial function." Outside of work, Steve's passion is downhill skiing. "I even thought of turning down the job of redeveloping First Avenue to run a ski area." At 77, he also enjoys sea kayaking. He and his wife, Gayle, have enjoyed beautiful days off San Juan Island with the whales on Haro Strait. You can connect with Steve at sloyd@galahadls.com. From Real Estate to Biotechnology, Steve Loyd '69 Shares Career Highlights Dedicated to Expanding Our Lifespan STEVE REFLECTS ON THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN "Bob Davis '92, then an EVP in Microsoft called a bunch of us together to brainstorm what a rebuilt Washington ADPhi Chapter House may be like. It was the brainstorming session that evolved into a multi-year, $15 million project, which became the current Chapter House. Getting a chance to connect with younger AD alumni, old friends, and undergraduates was a wonderful experience." W e're thrilled to announce the return of our annual Bubble Bash Auction on Friday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Mountaineers Auditorium in Magnuson Park. Last year's event raised an incredible $65,000 for Seattle Children's Stanley Stamm Camp, providing kids with chronic medical conditions a chance to experience the joys of summer camp. With a lively turnout of over 130 auction attendees, we created lasting memories and a significant impact thanks to the support of our amazing community. roughout the year, our connection with Seattle Children's continues to grow. Alongside the auction, our undergraduates volunteer in the hospital playroom every other week, filling a need for more young male volunteers in the hospital. Additionally, we had members involved directly at Stanley Stamm Camp, making a hands-on impact. Our efforts for the past year were recognized at the 2024 Alpha Delta Phi International Convention in August, where we earned the Andrew D. Pochter Excellence in Philanthropy Award. Join us in making 2025 another year to remember! Tickets and direct donations are available on our website at alphadeltsuw.com/ philanthropy. If you would like to contribute an auctionable item, make a donation, or help in any way, please contact Will Hunt '26 at pw.hunt11@gmail.com.
