46 | The Jewelr y Book T H E O R A N G E was originally introduced to Western Civilization in the late 15th century from Southern China and Northeast India, by Portuguese merchant traders; along with the Sanskrit word, nāran . ga, from which the French and English word orange is derived. But the color has come to represent so many things beyond the sweet citrus fruit aer which it is named. Devotees of color psychology view orange as optimistic and upliing. In heraldry, orange symbolizes strength and endurance. When it comes to spiritual symbolism, due to its link to the Sacral Chakra, orange represents passion and sensuality; while to Hindus and Buddhists, orange is equated with purity and spiritual devotion. And in the witchy world of color magick, orange is used to jump start creativity and boost confidence. As for the metaphysical associations of orange gemstones, they run deep. Carnelian is associated with creativity, mental focus, and vitality. Citrine is thought to activate self-expression while repelling depression and fears. Mexican Fire Opal is used to spark abundance, luck, passion, and enhanced intuition; while Morganite is used to channel love, compassion, inner peace, confidence, and healing. Orange Diamonds are associated with enthusiasm. Orange Jade is tied to emotional stability, self- confidence, and dispelling negative energy. Orange Moonstone is affiliated with divine feminine energy, fresh starts, creativity, calm, and fertility. Orange Sapphire is thought to harness wisdom, stability, confidence, and charisma. Oregon Sunstone is used to energize, aid intuition, and alleviate stress. And Spessartine is related to imagination, logic, and mental clarity. Personally, orange gemstones make me happy and put a smile on my face. What do they manifest in you and your customers?
