4 Beta Chi Columns I n the spirit of the Kappa Sigma song, members of the 1974-75 pledge class gathered in St. Louis on October 24 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their pledging semester. Of the original 21 members, two were unable to attend and four, Bruce Bowermaster '75, Don Brown '75, Matt Curran '75, and John Moles '75, have entered Chapter Celestial. Meeting at the Trainwreck Saloon in Westport on a Thursday evening, the group of 15 quickly fell back into their familiar camaraderie of Brotherhood, using long-forgotten nicknames to become reacquainted and share their experiences since graduation. Attendees included: Bill Alt '75 and Mark Gredell '75 from Texas, Dave Ausmus '75 (and Robin) from Macon, Mo., Ted Bestor '75 (and Carol) from California, Russ Brazeal '75 from Springfield, Mo., Mike Clark '75 from Ohio, Bruce Dunlevy '75 from Kentucky, Steve Ernst '75 and Steve Svatek '75 from Colorado, Mark Suellentrop '75 from Louisiana, and Mark White '75 (and Monika) from North Carolina. Local brothers included Ron Acker '75, Mike Rapisardo '75 (and Janet), Bob Simpson '75, and Jim Zaloudek '75 from St. Louis. Missing were Bob Arasmith '75 and Randy Mason '75. By the end of the evening, conversations about meeting again had already begun! The next day, some of the group met at Top Golf, while a couple of the Brothers visited the Chapter House. On Saturday, a few headed to Rolla for Homecoming, and by Sunday, most were on their way home. "… from east to west, from sea to sea, we come from near and far…" Robert T. White Jr. '66 spent six years in marine construction along the gulf coast. Afterward, he switched to chemical and service sales for boilers, cooling towers, and industrial wastewater. He has traveled in the U.S. and Canada extensively and currently resides in Wildwood, Mo. Email: rtwhite.rw@gmail.com Stewart A. Scott '71 misses and fondly remembers the great times he had at Beta-Chi. "The time has passed way too quickly," he said. "The pledge class of 1971 needs to find a way to get together and renew the memories. Fifty years used to seem like forever; now we are part of that legacy." Stew lives in Grain Valley, Mo. He and Monika are full-time fun seekers and are active at their churches in Florida and North Carolina. Mark still plays guitar on the praise teams and teaches the younger players. Their last grandchild is now two years old, and both Thomas and Carla's health is still good. He is looking forward to seeing more Brothers around soon!
