chi omega Χ Ω 3 A s a freshman, Nancy was familiar with several sisters in the Chi O house, but she knew she needed to make her own decision when it came to joining a sorority. "My positive opinion of the house only strengthened during recruitment," she recalled. "I felt such a special and genuine connection with the young women I met." As a member, Nancy soon found many reasons to be a proud supporter of her newfound sisterhood. "I appreciated the emphasis on academics and relationships," she said. "Chi Omega provided me with instant friendships and connections as well as ways to get involved and stay active. No matter your strength, there was a way to plug into that and continue to grow!" A bachelor's degree in accounting seemed like the right choice for Nancy due to other pledge sisters joining the program, but she ended up switching gears and pursuing an MBA at the University of Tulsa. Since then, she has found numerous, fulfilling career opportunities, and credits Chi Omega with affecting her career trajectory. "I learned about jobs, interviewed, and received positions because my sisters kept me in the loop about opportunities. One of my current jobs came about because I was hired by a Chi O!" Nancy currently works as an adjunct instructor at Tulsa Community College, a public relations coordinator for a retirement community in Tulsa, a contributing writer to TulsaKids Magazine, and host of a podcast, Sharing Passion and Purpose. The podcast started as a method for encouraging listeners to "follow their passion and find their purpose." Working in job placement and teaching exposed Nancy to people unhappy with their career choices, a predicament she found quite familiar. "By the time I figured out I had picked a major I wasn't suited for, it felt too late," she shared. "It took me several years to course-correct." While many just "stick it out," Nancy wants her listeners to feel the joy and fulfillment that comes when you're working in a field you love. And she isn't just talking about your day job! "Some people find that passion and purpose through a hobby or a side hustle," she says. The podcast has since expanded to include in-person events. "This opportunity is open to participants of all ages— from college students and young professionals to seasoned career women!" When she isn't traveling, Nancy lives in Tulsa with her husband. Their daughter is a senior and a Chi Omega at the University of Arkansas, and their son is a freshman at Iowa Western Community College. Last year, Nancy checked off a bucket list item: hiking the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim in one day! The enduring impact of Chi Omega has inspired Nancy to give back over the years by serving as a Chapter advisor as well as with recruitment. She currently volunteers as an area recruitment information chairman in the Tulsa area, which helps her stay plugged into the Chapter. She encourages other alumnae to take advantage of the many opportunities to support and give back. "Whether through writing RIFs for women going through recruitment, dropping off snacks at the house, or getting involved as a volunteer, there's always a way to serve."
