John T. Newlin '43 He served in the Army Corp of Engineers in the South Pacific in WWII. John earned a Master's degree from Iowa State University and worked as Civil Engineering Professior at Rose Polytechnic. John was also instrumental in the family real estate business, Newlin Johnson Co., Inc. in Terre Haute. John was active in many community affairs. He was a member of St. Patrick Church, and scoutmaster of Troop 31 at St. Patrick's School. He was an active Kiwanian for over 60 years and served as president of the Kiwanis Club of Terre Haute. John also was chairman of the Wabash Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross and active on the board of the Terre Haute Girl Scouts, as well as several other philanthropic and social organiza- tions. Lubo (Lou) Chelich '44 He spent his 35 year career at Inland Steel Company. In retirement, Lou volunteered more than 10,500 hours at Saint Anthony's Hospital of Crown Point and countless hours at Saint Matthias Church. Proud of his Croatian heritage, Lou was a life-long member of Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 170, serving in many leadership roles. He was honored as lodge man of the year in 2012. Lou was a charter member of Hoosi- er Hrvati Adult Tamburitza Orchestra. A devout Catho- lic, he was a member of Saint Mark Church of Gary and Saint Matthias Church of Crown Point, Indiana. Howard P. Freers '48 He served in the United States Navy from January 1945 to July 1946. Howard's profes- sional journey began at the Chrysler Corporation in November 1948. He then attended the Chrysler Institute of Engineering, earning his Master of Automotive Engi- neering in 1951. In 1955, Howard transitioned to the Ford Motor Company, where he remained until 1988. From 1971 until 1975 he was Chief Car Engineer of Ford Motor Company. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Engineering from Rose Hulman in 1990. His passion for innovation and determination led him to become an integral part of the development of the iconic Boss 302 Mustang, earning him the title of the "Boss of 302." William J. Kestermeier '51 He served in the Army and reached the rank of First Lieutenant. He worked for Bendix Corporation for over 40 years and retired as Vice President of Global Quality Control. He officiated high school football games for many years and in 1969 he became an NFL official. During his five years with the NFL, he officiated in NFL stadium. Ronald L. Brunner '52 He served in the Army and then went to work for Shell Oil Co. He later retired as Manager of Safety and Health for Shell Chemical. W. Rex Hauser '52 He worked his entire 42 year ca- reer at 3M Company. Robert "Doc" W. Hall '59 He served in the Army Corps of Engineers. He went on to get an MBA and a Doctorate in Business and Operations Management from Indiana University. He was a Professor of Operations Management for 33 years in the Kelley School of Busi- ness at Indiana University. In 1985, Dr. Hall became a founding member for the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME), a non -profit that focused on overcoming the slip in America's industrial edge. For 22 years, he was editor in chief of AME's publication "Target." He received the gold medal for lifetime achievement from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Louis H. Roehm '60 He worked for United States Bureau of Reclamation for 30 years. He earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Colorado. After retirement he volunteered at the local elementary school as a math tutor. Louis was devoted to his family and his church. Louis was a founding member of both Christ on the Mountain Parish and St. Jude Parish in Denver. He was a dedicat- ed member of the Serra Club of Southwest Denver for more than 30 years, serving as president and many other roles. W. David Starnes '62 He retired as operations manager with Castrol Industrial North America. Jack D. Cox '64 He served in the Air Force prior to attending Rose Polytechnic. He worked for Ethyl Visqueen, Pfizer, Hunter Machine, Troy Belting, and his own professional civil engineering business, JCox Asso- ciates. Jack served his local community by building houses, swimming pools, and barns. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church, Adams Lions Club, American Society of Civil Engineers, and Rose-Hulman Alumni Association. Richard (Dick) H. Jensen '64 He served in the Army prior to attending Rose Polytechnic. He earned a Mas- ter's degree from the University of Delaware. Dick worked for and later retired from the Du Pont company as a Research Fellow after 35 years. John "Toad" Leonard, Sr. '69 Master of Business Administration from Berry College, in Rome, Georgia. John worked for General Electric, Stran Steel, Brown Boveri Turbo Machinery, Morgan Engineering, Lithonia Lighting, and IBM. Richard W. Stultz '75 He was the operating manager for his family's business, Miller Roofing in Bluffton, for over 20 years. He was a past member of the Petroleum Lions Club, past chief of the Nottingham Township Volunteer Fire Department, and past Assistant Scout- master of Boy Scout Troup 149 of Bluffton. \\\\\\\\\\\\ ALUMNI UPDATE \\\\\\\\\\\\ Alumni News Andrew Feyen '02 was appointed General Manager for North and South America for Chargeurs PCC Fashion Technologies. Andrew Meiers '10 started a new position as Turbine Airfoils Casting Readiness Leader at GE Aerospace. Mike Plascak '12, his wife Stepha- nie, and big sister Lila Peach wel- comed a new baby brother, Marshall, during Rose-Hulman Homecoming Weekend. Ben Coble '14 has been promoted to Senior Staff UI Developer after 7 years at SailPoint Technologies. He continues to help develop key AI and Data products. Ben and his wife Am- ber are expecting their first child in February 2025. They are located in Shiner, TX where the beer is a short walk away. The brewery tour is quite good and all brothers are welcome to visit. Adam Hook '16 was promoted to Principal at Scimitar Inc. Brent Kamer '16 started a new posi- tion as the Field Services Engineer at Charm Industrial. Joseph Wood '16 and his wife Alli- son welcomed their second daughter, Ellie, in November 2023. Ty Iliovici '16 and wife Abby wel- comed a son, Sam in February 2024. Sam Mimms '17 married his wife Kaylin in July 2024. Mikey Amat '18 completed his MBA from the University of Central Florida. Mike Riley '19 has moved to Whitestown, IN and is now engaged to be married in August of 2025. Micheal Wheeler '20 has earned his Professional Engineer (PE) license. Alumni in Action CHAPTER ETERNAL Rose Gala – A Sesquicentenni- al Celebration: Chuck '80 and Betsy Sigman, PK '77 and Raye Koch , and Roger '78 and Michelle Edelbrock were among many alumni enjoying the gala. Hole-in-One: L to R: Jae Billingsley '98, Jim Spring '99, Ashvin Lad '96, and Brian Cahill '96 enjoyed a round of golf at Bowes Creek Country Club in Elgin, IL in August. Jae had the low score for the round, but Brian recorded a hole-in- one on the 17 th hole. Homecoming—Tartan Jackets: Paul '77 and Ray Koch, Roger '78 and Michelle Edelbrock, Jerry '77 and Sandy Matthews, and Greg '01 and Lindsay Gotwald each received tartan jackets at Homecoming for their significant financial contributions to Rose- Hulman.
