A Year to Remember Undergraduates Share 2024 Milestones T he men of the Iowa Xi Chapter are coming off an incredibly successful 2023-24 school year. We celebrated the graduation of 14 seniors and wish them the best in their future endeavors. Over the course of the year, we also welcomed 30 new members to the fraternity. Over the summer and into the fall semester, our recruitment team— Andrew Bennett '26, Anthony Campana '26, and Owen Ellsworth '27— successfully recruited 15 members, continuing our steady growth. That growth has allowed us to fill both the chapter house and the Annex, a significant achievement after years of effort. Thanks to the generous contributions from Iowa Xi alumni, we have made several updates to our chapter facilities, including brand-new carpeting, reconstruction of the back entrance, new flooring in the guest bathroom, and various other improvements. We are looking forward to upcoming projects, like study room enhancements and a new chapter house sign. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made these updates possible. Iowa Xi has also dedicated time and effort to maintaining academic excellence, achieving a house GPA of 3.17, with 20 members receiving dean's list recognition. We are incredibly proud of our members' efforts in the classroom and look forward to continuing this success. Our fundraising efforts received a boost this year through the Men of Character fundraiser, which celebrated our status as the only Phi Kappa Theta chapter to have operated continuously for 100 years. This fundraiser supports two charities: Special Olympics Iowa and the Children's Miracle Network. During Greek Week, we teamed up with Kappa Kappa Gamma and Theta Delta Chi under the banner of "Greek Jam." We enjoyed various events, placing in the soccer tournament and earning awards in the Lip Sync competition. Our undergraduates also participated in the Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics Iowa. This year, Iowa Xi alumni generously pledged to support our fundraising efforts as part of the Men of Character campaign celebrating our centennial. We are especially grateful for the $5,000 donation from alumni, which helped kickstart our efforts. To do their part, each undergraduate aimed to raise a minimum of $75 to participate in the plunge, and together, our chapter raised an impressive $16,825, contributing significantly to the $41,220 raised by our Greek Jam pairing. This made us the third-highest fundraising group in the Greek community—a remarkable achievement raising over $7,000 more than our entire pairing did the previous year. The whole chapter took the plunge alongside our chapter advisor, ISU police officer Derek Doebel. In all, Greek Week 2024 raised a total of $363,118 for Special Olympics Iowa. In recognition of our achievements, the national Fraternity recognized the Iowa Xi Undergraduate Chapter with the Mike McSweeney Leadership Development Excellence Award and the Cardinal Wuerl Spiritual Development Excellence Award. We are proud of these accolades and are eager to continue our growth, development, and commitment to academic excellence this school year!
