T his summer, the corporation board renovated the front lawn with Wintergreen boxwoods and Lemon Zest rose shrubs. With the addition of large pots overflowing with bright annuals, the front of the house was beautiful for recruitment! We had modest plans to replace two leaky shower floors and the portico roof over the front porch. The showers were updated, then we discovered that all mattresses needed replacement and new windows and sills were needed on the second floor. The roof was postponed; however, we purchased a new commercial ice machine, clothes dryer, camera security system, and more insulation for the second-floor attic. We already have plans for next summer: painting the outside of the house, seal coating and restriping the parking lot, and replacing the portico roof. All your donations make these projects possible! This year, we have an opportunity to help future undergraduate members of Xi. In the last eight years, 59 Xi members have applied for scholarships and 17 were awarded. Your corporation board set up a "Xi Chapter Scholarship" in honor of Sigma Kappa's 150 years of sisterhood! We are already halfway to our endowment goal of $25,000 and hope that you can help us secure additional pledges so we can support more deserving Xi members. A unique giving link and QR code are included in this newsletter. We will host our annual meeting on November 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapter house. The corporation board is supporting a change to bylaws that was suggested by our accountant. He mentioned that an "outside review" by an accounting firm will give us the same report as the usual audit, but it will take 2-3 months to complete (compared to six months for an audit) and cost half the price of an audit, which costs $10,000. The board believes that it is difficult to justify the time and expense of an audit when an "outside review" will be sufficient and reasonable, providing the same usable report. We want to add the option of "outside review," as recommended by our accountant. The ballot link, the exact wording of the proposed bylaw change, and the link for the Zoom meeting are all on the purple box to the left. The corporation board appreciates the generosity of your gifts and hopes you will consider joining the board to keep Xi attractive and competitive. Please visit any time!
