Sigma Alpha Epsilon Wyoming Alpha Housing Corp. 1621 East Fraternity Row Laramie, WY 82072 To Whom It May Concern, The University of Wyoming has a long history that dates back to its founding in the mid-1880s. Less than 20 years into the university's founding, the first fraternities (1903) and sororities (1905) emerged as local organizations and played a vital role in the vibrance of student life on campus, which remains to this day. This should come as no surprise, though, to the gentlemen of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, because it was Sigma Beta Phi (local) Fraternity that was the first and would later become SAE. The legacy of being a home for its members and a central community for developing spirit and tradition for UW while also providing leadership and academic support remains true to this day. When done right and well, a fraternal experience is one of the premiere leadership and development experiences for college students. As an affiliated member of a fraternal organization myself, I understand firsthand the impact the experience provides. I would not be the person I am today if it were not for my sorority experience. In that recognition, I am a strong supporter of our fraternity and sorority community, often attending events and speaking with chapter and council leaders when opportunities present themselves. Beyond myself, the university's administration also recognizes the value that a positive fraternity/sorority community provides on campus and the highly engaged alumni that remain committed to their alma matter, often as a result of that same FSL experience. In November 2023, University President Dr. Ed Seidel appointed a Fraternity and Sorority Life Visioning Work Group comprised of approximately 20 administrators, staff, faculty, and students with the specific charge of "crafting a comprehensive vision for fraternity and sorority life at UW that is cognizant of UW's Master Plan, Strategic Plan, and Presidential Goals and addresses the critical aspects of programming, safety, facilities, and economics." The group has finished their work and sent recommendations on July 1 to our university president. Once approved, the work will begin implementing the recommendations and ensuring the fraternity and sorority community thrives for years to come. We look forward to Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity being leaders in the continued efforts of the community and applaud their efforts for future facility improvement.
