TAU TALK ALPHA TAU OMEGA AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY FALL 2024 Connect with Gamma Upsilon Online! $ atoisu.com/donate-now Alpha Tau Omega - Gamma Upsilon - Iowa State University ato_iastate @ATOISU atoisu.com @ato_iastate T here has been an important change in the structure of Gamma Upsilon Chapter's alumni leadership team! In the past, we have had a Board of Trustees and a Corporation Board. One set of alumni filled the positions on both boards, there was only one set of officers, and the board's meetings were combined. Through his involvement with the ATΩ National Foundation Board, Gary Flander '78 realized this structure was not in line with the ATΩ National recommendations for its chapters. Therefore, in June our leadership met to vote on a new structure that would align with expectations and set Gamma Upsilon up for many years of future success. They decided to separate the two boards to operate as individual teams. THE BREAKDOWN So what will having a Board of Trustees and a Corporation Board look like? The role of each board will differ in several crucial ways: • The Board of Trustees is focused on the overall mission and future direction of the fraternity, while the Corporation Board deals with the day- to-day operations related to housing and property management. • Trustees typically play an advisory role, while Corporation Board members are more hands-on with operational and legal matters. • Trustees look at long-term strategy and governance, while the Corporation Board is concerned with the maintenance and financial health of physical assets like the house. THE BENEFITS How will this change help Gamma Upsilon? Here's what we hope: • We'll be complying with National expectations regarding liability and risk, including legal and insurance-related concerns. • Delegating responsibilities should reduce board member burnout and create more opportunities for more alumni to serve. • Roles will appeal to alumni volunteers who may prefer to serve in more specific areas. We hope to see nothing but positive impacts from this change and are excited to embark on this new path for Gamma Upsilon. Future Tau Talks will include updates on how it's going! For now, please learn more about our new presidents for each board to the right and reach out if you're interested in taking on a board position of your own!
