DELTA PSI NEWS 2 A very Curtis Miller '11 went into recruitment as a triple legacy for another sorority. "It seemed to be a no-brainer—until I entered Kappa. For that specific time in my life, entering adulthood and stepping away from home for the first time, the girls felt like a home away from home." Avery met many wonderful women through Delta Psi Chapter. "Kappa allowed me to see that such a variety of women, from all backgrounds and experiences, can all come together to be so passionately united for one cause." In Kappa, Avery felt valued and appreciated beyond her achievements. "It allowed me space to just be a part of something without always having to be in charge." In her career, Avery worked as a pediatric speech pathologist until a new opportunity presented itself when a Delta Psi sister asked her to live paint at her wedding five years ago. "I responded with, 'What does that mean?' With a little art background, her trust, and God's timing, I painted live for the first time and took to live painting fairly quickly!" Over the next year, Avery was booked as a live painter. This transition in her career allowed her to do what she loved most: being a mother. "God's beautiful timing opened the door to such a fun career! I'm now a full-time live wedding painter and an extra full-time mom of three." Avery has had a blast. "I get to do what I love while witnessing love, listening to tearful speeches, jamming out to music, and bringing joy to others." She has been voted "Best of The Knot" and "Best in Austin Weddings" for consecutive years and featured in Brides of Austin Magazine, and she will be in upcoming issues of Texas Monthly and WedSociety. "Another one of my favorite parts is making great connections with my fellow planners and vendors here in Austin (or as we call them 'friendors')," she shared. "Their trust in my artwork and small business is what is keeping me booked up. I'm so thankful for the connections I've made." Avery has been happily married to her college crush for seven years. She has a 4-year-old girl, a 2-and-a-half-year-old boy, and a 6-month-old boy. "They make my entire world go round." Want to connect with Avery? Email her at a.curtiscreations@gmail.com. Avery recently painted at the wedding of her Kappa GrandLittle, Meagan Moe Niese '13. While there, she met up with her Great GrandLittle, Alison Schramm '14. Bringing Joy to Others AVERY CURTIS MILLER '11 LOVES BEING AVERY CURTIS MILLER '11 LOVES BEING A LIVE WEDDING PAINTER A LIVE WEDDING PAINTER "In 1 Peter 4:10, the Bible reminds us that, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others." That's what brings me joy—bringing others joy through a gift that God has given me."
