MS Beta Post The Mississippi Beta Chapter of Pi Beta Phi at the University of Mississippi | Fall 2024 S ince the spring edition of The MS Beta Post, Chapter House Corporation (CHC) has experienced several member changes. Beth Williston Webb '68, Robbie Peacock Carmichael '71, Karen Holcomb Logan '72, Marijean Herring Howell '74 and Carol Ann Middlebrook Carter '71 retired after serving for many years. The continuing board members celebrated their many years of service over dinner at the home of Gail Thompson Collins '71 in Oxford on May 13. I was chosen to serve as the new CHC President and assumed the role in March 2024. Remaining members include Jamie Latture Collier '72, Marlene Westfaul Holmes '75, Gail Thompson Collins '71 and Gena Milliken Jennings '85 as well as Tennessee Gamma alumna Emily Thomas Johnson '96. In April, some retiring and continuing board members spent several days in the house creating an inventory of the furniture, books, kitchen appliances, paintings, art pieces and equipment to ensure adequate insurance coverage. After residents moved out at the end of the spring semester, board members and House Director Libby Vanderford conducted a thorough inspection of all resident rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, common areas, porches and landscaping to identify issues to address over the summer. Returning chapter members, especially the house residents, may note extra cleaning, painting and fixing up in the resident rooms and bathrooms; steam cleaning of furniture and rugs; improvements to Level 5's air conditioning; completion of a Level 5 study area with the addition of wallpaper, pendant lights, and additional electrical outlets. New Takagi tankless water heaters serving Levels 2 and 4 with detailed directions to ensure hot water and updated landscaping to the left front of the house to prevent erosion and to repair existing and deter future drainage issues. And there are several not-so-noticeable improvements as well! CHC wishes to thank Frank Harrison, who worked over the summer to address much- needed projects in the resident rooms and bathrooms and interacted with the outside crews working at the house. Our thanks is also due to Libby Vanderford, who supervised all work performed this summer and, as the move-in date loomed, worked with Frank on final details and preparations for recruitment. In Pi Phi, Leah Hurley '72, CHC President We are sincerely grateful for these exemplary Pi Beta Phi alumnae volunteers who have tirelessly served Mississippi Beta and led our sisterhood with clear heads and kind hearts.
