Afterward, between 2018 and 2020, Shane served on the President's Council of Advisors on Science & Technology (PCAST). Here, he advised the United States President on policy and investments in science and technology, building the workforce, and supporting foundational research and development nationwide. Eleven other members from across the private sector and academic communities served alongside Shane. "Serving on PCAST was similar to HP Labs in that way. My colleagues were unquestionably bright, but it was their curiosity and creativity that made them such wise and prolific leaders within our industry." Since 2014, Shane has served on the Board of Friends of the Children, a nonprofit seeking to break the cycle of poverty and empower at-risk youth. "I became involved because it spoke to my heart—this is how I grew up," says Shane. During his tenure, Friends of the Children has helped thousands of children achieve academic success, avoid the juvenile justice system, and delay parenthood. "Charity and non-profit involvement are crucial responsibilities we have as citizens and leaders. It is just one of the ways I try to adhere to my personal principle: Leave this world a better place than you found it." Forty years after their road trip across Idaho and Oregon, Alan and Shane remain the best of friends. In fact, the moment Alan received word his nomination for Shane had been accepted, the two were boarding a plane to Alaska for a fishing trip together. "More than anything else, Lambda Chi is about camaraderie. The Brothers I made in Corvallis were then—and are now—some of my very closest friends." Their accomplishments bring honor to Lambda Chi Alpha and serve as an inspiration to their brothers. These role models are an example of the fraternity's ethics and ideals for alumni and undergraduates who are preparing to step out into the world. The gold medallion of the Order of Achievement bears appropriately at its focal point in Greek the open motto, "Naught Without Labor." Shane Wall Awarded ΛXA's Order of Achievement
