2 Beta Theta Pi OPENER One of the many privileges of being a Gamma Lambda is listening to alumni reflect and tell countless stories of highlights from their collegiate experience. In the back of my mind, I can't help but wonder what those experiences will be for us. What stories will we be telling Betas of future generations? What experiences will stand out when we look back 10 years from now? Although there's no way to know yet, I am sure some of those moments will be from spring 2024. Gamma Lambda continues to provide memories, lifelong friendships, and stories for generations to come. GLIMPSE OF THE CHAPTER This spring, we ended the semester with 166 active members, remaining the largest fraternity on campus. As we inch closer to the fall semester, 10 men who pledged this spring anticipate being added to that number. Following a strong spring recruitment, we are excited to see our Head of Recruitment, Will Mulready '25, assemble an impressive pledge class for the fall with men of outstanding character whose lives reflect the principles Beta has preserved and instilled for so long. We extend our deepest gratitude and thanks to the alumni who have assisted in the recruitment process for so many years and continue to be a reason for Beta's dominance on campus. ACADEMICS Gamma Lambda Chapter has been above a 3.5 GPA for eight semesters in a row—a rare feat for a chapter of this magnitude and size. This spring, 55 men achieved a 4.0 GPA, 58 men achieved a 3.5 GPA or above, and most notably, our spring pledge class finished in first place among all fraternities in overall new member GPA. As a chapter, we achieved a GPA of 3.58, outperforming the IFC GPA of 3.33 and placing second among all fraternities. Academics have become an engraved piece of Beta's culture, and we are incredibly proud of our brothers' continued hard work and diligence. ADDING TO THE TROPHY ROOM Gamma Lambda is no stranger to bringing home hardware, and it didn't stop this spring. In Varsity Revue, our men, along with the wonderful women of Kappa Kappa Gamma, finished in second place, along with additional awards for Best Male Director, Best Opener, and Best Choreography. Shortly after, our brothers, and the talented women of Kappa Delta, took to the stage again for Spring Sing. Our men placed first, along with awards for Best Theme, Best Choreography, and Best Vocals. This marks our third consecutive year of winning Spring Sing. While many brothers brought home hardware from the stage, our men's athletic abilities continue to do the same. Gamma Lambda brought home its fourth Ultimate Frisbee championship in a row, sand volleyball and softball titles, and had many other impressive performances in the intramural scene. Along with intramurals, Betas made their presence known in many sports- based philanthropy events throughout Greek life. Those include first-place showings in the Sigma Nu Temple Classic, JGL Scott Carter Classic, Gamma Phi Moonball, and Alpha Chi Volley Against Violence. The BRIAC Court continues to be a staple of our chapter, hosting a successful King of the Court basketball event for the second year in a row and raising $2,113 for Folds of Honor. Looking toward the fall, we are excited for our pairing with the outstanding women of Kappa Delta for Homecoming 2024. This will mark Gamma Lambda's fifth time participating in OSU's historic deck-building competition. We are confident in our Homecoming team's abilities and the hard work they have already put in this spring. IFC RECOGNITION The men of the Gamma Lambda Chapter continue to perform on many different fronts, including academics, athletics, shows, etc. At the annual Greek Awards ceremony, we brought home awards for Chapter Management and Most Improved IFC Chapter. We were finalists in all the remaining categories: Campus Involvement, College & Community Relations, Membership Development, and Scholarship. We are just a few points away from securing every award. Beta has become the most well-rounded chapter on campus and strives to offer the best collegiate experience regardless of where interests lie. I'm reminded of a quote by Willis O. Robb, Ohio Wesleyan 1879, familiar to many Betas around the country, that reads: "The Beta is distinguishable and distinguished from all other kinds of fraternity men whatsoever, by just a little warmer and stronger, just a little tenderer and more enduring fraternity feeling than any of them can attain to. For it was always so, I do not know in the least how it happened, nor why it persisted after it happened, but a long time ago there came into Beta Theta Pi a fraternity spirit that was, and is, and apparently will continue to be, unique." The character of our men is what has always distinguished us from other fraternities. Alumni, we thank you for creating a culture that we so confidently preserve and that embodies the words of Willis O. Robb. We hope to see you soon.
