S
tarting a new fraternity chapter at Cal is an ambitious and
rewarding endeavor that requires dedication, planning, and a
clear vision. We've completed the first two steps to return to Cal.
Step 1: Research and Planning
Step 2: Securing SigEp HQ and University Support
Step 3: Building a Founding Membership
In preparation for Step 3, we are having a workshop on campus for
the AVC and mentors who will be supporting the new chapter on
Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be a Zoom
option for those who can't be there physically, but if possible, we ask
mentors to plan to attend this team-building meeting in person.
Recruitment is obviously a critical phase. We'll be looking for a
diverse group of committed men who are passionate about "raising
their bar" in the establishment of a new fraternity at Cal, one that will
be different. Learn more about SigEp's updated recruiting approach
by visiting rb.gy/4uef2l.
Primarily anchored by two full-time HQ staffers at Cal for the fall
semester, there will be informational sessions, social events, and
meet-and-greets to attract potential members. These "chapter
development directors" are like the regional directors that
support established chapters. They'll be full time at Cal in fall and
move on to another campus in the spring. We will also share a
dedicated regional director for the entire academic year with two
other chapters.
Step 4: Establishing Traditions and Programs
As they are recruiting, the chapter development directors will start
establishing traditions and programs that reflect SigEp's unique
value proposition. Mentors will also be crucial.
As part of this effort, we will have content-rich chapter meetings
where an alumnus speaks. Some will have the speaker present in
person, and some will be done via Zoom. By spring 2025, our new
brothers will need to be able to recruit additional members and
operate the chapter more on their own. Mentors will be crucial to
helping the chapter get reestablished.
Are You Ready to Step Up?
With dedication, strategic planning, and a clear vision, SigEp can
again become a significant and positive force on campus.
