Visions Violets of Beta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority at Purdue University • Summer 2024 D o you ever wonder how Sigma Kappa is organized and how you can support the chapter? You aren't alone! While some things remain the same since our time on campus, much has changed. Regardless of collegiate or alumnae status, we are all part of "Team Beta Sigma" and share the goal of ensuring our chapter thrives today and in the future. Beta Sigma History and Campus Today Since 1948, Beta Sigma Chapter has been a part of the national Sigma Kappa Sorority organization and is bound to follow the values, rules, and expectations as determined by the national council. Collegiate Beta Sigma members elect officers who are responsible for managing and running the on-campus chapter, which has an executive council, cabinet positions, and several positions that organize social activities, sisterhood outings, recruitment, and scholarship alongside leadership positions. They typically have between 140-150 members when the newest member class (typically between 40-45) has been initiated. Chapter Advisory Board Comprised of volunteer alumnae, Advisory Board members are assigned to advise various undergraduate officer positions. The supervisor is appointed by national Sigma Kappa to lead the board, including appointing the remaining board members. Our current supervisor is Mady Enos '18. Other key advisory board members include the collegiate management advisor (Dee Dee Mathys '89), financial advisor (Molly McCloskey '89), and recruitment advisor (Maya Birhiray '18). Beta Sigma Chapter House Corporation Also known as the Corp Board, this group is a separate legal entity from the chapter and national sorority who owns the chapter house and the land. The Corp Board's responsibility is to ensure the house is a quality, safe, and comfortable place for our collegiate members to live, study, and gather. We opted many years ago to NOT join the Sigma Kappa National Housing Corporation for purposes of managing the chapter house. Beta Sigma is one of 16 Sigma Kappa chapters that remain locally managed. The Corporation Board is elected by Beta Sigma members in good standing (collegiate and alumnae) each spring. After the board is elected, they elect the president, treasurer, and secretary. The president then appoints and assigns the remaining board members. A list of current board members is below. B E C O M E A P A R T O F T E A M B E T A S I G M A !
