Take Care!
International Self-Care Day is July
24. It's an annual opportunity to put a
spotlight on self-care and the benefits
it brings to both individuals and the
healthcare system as a vital foundation
of health.
Practicing self-care isn't always easy.
With busy days, stressful jobs, and
over-consumption of technology, it is
difficult to make time for ourselves.
Worse, we can sometimes feel guilty
about taking the time required to take
care of ourselves.
Here are some ideas for self-care
that won't cost a thing (mostly):
• Write down five things you are
grateful for.
• Make the appointment that you
have been avoiding and discuss your
mental or physical health.
• Participate in or create a book
club, spiritual support group, or
discussion group.
• Create a prayer or meditation corner.
• List the tasks that have been
weighing you down and just do them.
• Surround yourself with scents that
bring back beautiful memories or
uplift your mood.
• Take your lunch outside and read
a book on a park bench. People
watching allowed!
• Disconnect from your phone and
social media for a specified amount
of time. Start with two hours. Can
you do it for three?
• Have a PJ day, when you spend the
day in your PJs and choose not to
leave the house.
• Call a friend you haven't talked with
in a while and share happy news.
