So, if you are new to the area and looking for a way to feel connected, find a pickleball group! Here is everything you need to know to enjoy your summer on the court. What is pickleball? Despite its recent growth in popularity, pickleball has been around since the 1960s and was created by a few friends that were looking for a new way to spend time together. Because of the visual similarity of a pickleball court and a tennis court, people tend to think of pickleball as just a smaller version of tennis. It is much more! Pickleball is a team paddle sport that draws from tennis, ping-pong, and badminton. T h e C o u r t I s C a l l i n g YO U ! PICKLEBALL FEVER How do I play? Pickleball is typically played with two teams of two players, and each player gets a paddle to hit the ball over the net. A game starts with a diagonal serve across the court, and the ball must bounce once on each side before players can volley it in the air. Points are scored when the opposing team fails to return the ball within the court lines. Most games are played to 11 points, and you must be at least two points ahead of the other team to end the game and win. For the full rule book, visit www.usapickleball.org.
