What a comfort and relief that I could talk to Viv and know that, once again, everything would be taken care of. Moving back to Columbia, it has been such a joy to spend me with Viv on the House Board and working together on this newsle er. Of course, I'm a ny piece of the legacy that Viv has established here. Sydne Shaffer Stansberry (Omega, 1979) recounts mee ng Vivian in 1988 when her family was new to Columbia. "Vivian was so welcoming and kind—she included me in everything," Syd says. "There were countless occasions when she would take my phone calls to give me advice and support. Vivian holds a special place in my heart." Conner Logsdon (Theta, 2014) met Viv when she served as Theta Chapter President. "She just radiated Kappa," Conner said. "As soon as she stepped through the front door, she had a smile on her face and said hello. I con nue to meet Viv in the foyer of the house every me we meet together, and that gree ng hasn't changed. When I think of Kappa, it is Viv that comes to mind." Vivian was ini ated into Theta Chapter in 1959 a er two years at Stephens College and filled her collegiate years with many happy memories, including sharing Kappa with her sister, Susie Eyna en Hughes (Theta, 1963). "I think Kappa le a mark on Viv's heart in her collegiate days that she wanted to pass on to others throughout their early, mid, and late Kappa lives," says Conner. "She can recall memories, tradi ons, and song lyrics like no other Kappa I've ever met." Indeed, Vivian didn't limit Kappa to a mere college experience. While she was se ling her family, she started volunteering on the Advisory Board and con nued for over 40 years. She's spent the last 13 years sharing her knowledge and wisdom with us on the Theta Chapter House Board, including taking us through the fundraising campaign, renova on, and addi on from 2012–2015. But it was always about the people that filled the house that have meant the most to her. "Viv shared with me many, many mes about how much she just loved the girls. She relishes every moment and occasion with them," noted Syd. It is this care for each individual Kappa sister, no ma er their age, that is Viv's current and las ng legacy. When asked which Kappa value most describes Viv, Conner says, "Trailblazing! O en mes people think of this word as 'progressive' or one that 'leaves tradi on behind.' Not Viv. Viv knows that a Kappa's life as an ac ve and alumnae is constantly evolving. She holds true to what it means to be a Kappa and has ac vely worked to marry our history and tradi on with the reality of where the chapter is today to build a founda on for a bright future ahead." Viv, we could fill a thousand pages with adoring stories from each Kappa you have come across. We are excited for you to spend more me with your beloved family but know that you will always answer our queries with love and pa ence. We con nue to appreciate you for providing us with the most wonderful example of life me Kappa sisterhood. Syd says it best: "Vivian embodies the good, the true, the beau ful, in every sense of the words." Thank you, Viv! –Sarah Strom Bohl (Theta, 2001) " I think Kappa left a mark on Viv's heart in her collegiate days that she wanted to pass on to others…" –Conner Logsdon
