Sigma Phi Epsilon Page 5 O n February 24, Sigma Phi Epsilon, alongside Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Chi, hosted our first Sigma BBQ event since 2019, marking the event's heartfelt return to philanthropy in Gainesville's community. The event served as a powerful platform to spread awareness and support for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a cause very close to our hearts. GATHERED FOR A CAUSE A core aspect of our event's success was the profound partnership and shared mission with the Jett Foundation. TJ Bowen '25, a lifelong friend of Dale Ginder, a courageous man living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, played a pivotal role in organizing the event. The Ginder family, through their organization Cure Dale's Duchenne, has been an ardent supporter of the Jett Foundation, aiding annually in programs such as the Jett Giving Fund. "Jett Foundation and the Duchenne community mean a lot to me due to my relationship with Dale," TJ shared. "It was nice to be able to teach more people about what Duchenne is and how the Jett Foundation supports families impacted by Duchenne. Being able to sit back and take in the wholesome moment of all these people supporting the Duchenne community was unlike anything I've experienced." A STRONGER IMPACT TOGETHER The event was a phenomenal success, drawing approximately 350 attendees from all over Gainesville. The sense of community and shared purpose was palpable, as everyone gathered not just for good food and camaraderie but also for a cause that affects many. Through ticket sales, donations, and sponsorships, we were thrilled to raise around $7,000. This achievement was a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, particularly highlighting the bonds we forged with Sigma Chi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon in the process. Working alongside these Fraternities, we strengthened our relationships while demonstrating the power of unity in making a meaningful impact. ALL ACCORDING TO PLAN Sigma BBQ was an atmosphere of happiness and good vibes. The event featured phenomenal food and music from two of the Fraternities' bands. The music opened with a performance from Sigma Chi's band, Sigs Inside, and was followed by Stillwater Revival, featuring Florida Alpha members Kristian Fischer '26 and Sam Wright '26. "The barbecue went perfectly, and we are very grateful to everyone who came by to support," TJ said. One of the highlights was witnessing Dale Ginder interact and bond with students from the University of Florida, showcasing the powerful connections that can be forged when different communities come together for a common cause. As we reflect on the success of Sigma BBQ, we are filled with gratitude and optimism for the future. We hope to host more fundraising events for the Jett Foundation and continue our efforts in raising awareness about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Fraternally, Graham Oldershaw '25 More than 350 attendees came together to make new memories and support a great cause. e Fraternities provide great entertainment for event attendees.
