K ristey Slyter Williams '91 joined Alpha Chi Omega for the people. "It's the women you meet that invite you into a space to call home." Kristey has fond memories of time spent with those women. She recalls late-night discussions debating life's existential questions and gathering in the TV room to watch Days of Our Lives. Kristey was proud that Phi Chapter was one of the top sororities academically. As a collegian, she learned to live with her sisters, manage a busy schedule, and commit to her group, which are life experiences she has carried into her career. In her early career, she was a teacher, a mayor, a community activist, and a mom. Now she serves as the state representative of the 77th District of Kansas. "Helping people has always been the singular thing that drives my purpose at the State House," she shared. "If we forget why we serve, there's really no point—it's always about the people." Kristey is grateful for the trust and support of the people of her district. As a lawmaker, she has felt fortunate to champion policies of transparency and accountability in economic development incentives, taxes, and education, both community college and K-12. She has also helped lead education freedom policies that allow more choice, flexibility, and opportunity for students. Kristey is a proud mom of two KU graduates and two K-State students. Her second oldest, Sadie, graduated from KU in 2023 and served as student body president and Chi Omega president. In her free time, Kristey enjoys traveling, reading, spending time outdoors, and enjoying time with her family and friends.
