Made Possible through the Educational Foundation Brett T. Lyman '14 bought his first dental practice in November 2023; it's based in Hutchinson, Kan. Email: brettlymandds@gmail.com William R. Hartman '79 is happily retired after selling his business in November 2023. He and his wife love to travel and are planning about three major trips a year "until we've seen what we need to see." They split their time between their home in Visalia, Calif., and their condo in Santa Barbara. Email: williamrhartman1@gmail.com "It means so much knowing that alumni want us to succeed, just like they did. The hard work I put in as a new member felt rewarded." –Finn Wilson '26 Spring 2023 recipient "As someone who is paying for all of his college expenses, receiving this scholarship felt amazing and made an impact. It also meant a lot that my brothers saw potential in me." –Nolan Rodriguez '26 Fall 2023 recipient S C H O L A R S H I P U P D A T E S Alumni Updates O ver time, the chapter, alumni, and friends have donated over $180,000 to our endowment to support undergraduates in Delta Chi at Kansas State. Every year, nearly $6,500 is given to brothers who exhibit strong leadership, academic achievement, and make an impact in the community. When alumni donate to Kansas State Delta Chi Education Foundation, they make a direct and positive impact on the experience of students for years to come. STEVEN NIEMEYER ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE SEMESTER SCHOLARSHIP On Christmas Eve in 1971, Brother Steven Niemeyer '72 tragically passed away—one semester away from graduation. The chapter later created an award and scholarship to honor a new member each semester who possesses exemplary attributes of scholarship, fellowship, and character. "My entire family is so proud to know that there is a scholarship named after Steve, 50 years after his passing," said Steve's brother Mike Niemeyer '71. "I spoke at the chapter's 60th anniversary in Manhattan in 2022 and wanted current members to know something about my brother, other than just his name. That evening, I added some money to the endowment with the goal of eventually getting it to $20,000. I was completely blown away the following spring when the members donated all the money raised during their Mom's Weekend ($8,500) to the endowment. I promptly signed another check, and the endowment is now sitting at $20,000. We will get it to $30,000 next and hopefully keep it growing. To those that have benefited from the scholarship: congratulations. I know that you will continue to do great things in your lives." AARON OTTO POTENTIAL LEADER SCHOLARSHIP In 1997, Aaron Otto '98 was asked by Andy Hanson '00, Aaron's little brother in Delta Chi, to leave the chapter meeting. Andy proposed that they name the chapter's campus and community leadership award after his big brother. Somehow, the chapter was able to keep this plan a secret for nearly a year and shared the news of this honor with Aaron during the graduating senior send-off in the spring of 1998. "I am as humbled today as I was in 1998 when I learned about this honor," Aaron said. "I took on leadership roles on campus and in the community because of the soft skills I learned as part of Delta Chi, and these opportunities help me promote and role model the advantages of being part of our fraternity. I am very impressed each semester to learn more about the individuals who have continued our fraternity's history of providing quality leadership through those recognized each semester by this award."
