SISTERHOOD AT YOUR FINGERTIPS A New Way to Pay Your Dues Keeping AXO Competitive Keeping AXO Competitive New Scholarship Supports Chapter House Retention o combat the trend of moving out of the house after sophomore year, Xi Educational Corporation is providing $1,000 scholarships to juniors and seniors who wish to live in the chapter house. This year's first recipients are Alaina Tomesh '21 and Emma Osborne '21. Alaina is from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and chose UNL for its journalism program. She considers membership in Alpha Chi Omega to be a privilege, and she currently serves as VP for Chapter Relations and Standards. Emma is studying to become a child life specialist and work in healthcare. During her time in Xi, she has served as Parents Club chairman and VP membership programming; she was recently elected to serve as Xi president. Hailing from Omaha, Emma is a multigenerational legacy. Her mother is Jen Elliott Osborne '93, her grandmother is Barbara Robbie-Elliott '67, and her great- grandmother was June Waggener-Elliott '37. Both young women emphasized the convenience of living in the chapter house. As a broadcasting major, Alaina is always on the move. Her location on campus eases her walk over to Anderson Hall to work on her Nebraska Nightly broadcast. She's also just a five-minute drive to Channel 10/11, where she's an intern pitching stories for daily broadcasts. Living at Xi allows her to pursue everything that she wants as a UNL student. Emma knows that moving out of the house after sophomore year has become the norm. However, she enjoys the benefits of living in the house, especially developing friendships with the sophomores and providing mentorship to the younger members. For several years, sororities at the university have had their memberships exceed housing capacity. Therefore, only sophomores and executive members are guaranteed a space in the house. Yet sorority members have many other choices about where they live. In the last 10 years, student apartments with attractive amenities have sprung up all around the UNL campus. Xi Educational Foundation believes these scholarships will incentivize more juniors/seniors to choose the chapter house. These scholarships are just one of the ways that the Educational Foundation is fighting to make the chapter house every member's first choice for living quarters. Alaina and Emma both noted that the recent upgrades and remodeling of the bathrooms at the house by House Corporation Board enhance their experience and make living in the house attractive. Sisters, please consider donating to Xi Educational Foundation to help make living in Xi Chapter a viable option for our junior and senior members!
