The company that has been hosting the online editions since 2010 is "moving in a new direction" and will be discontinuing that service. Desert Messenger is still exploring options available. So many choic- es, so little time! Watch this space! The May edition will be the last online edition hosted on company's website, so this month I will be busy transferring all the editions to the new site. To get started, I began a Substack called "Quartzsite Rain's Newsletter" which will also be used for sending email notifi cations for when up- coming editions will become available online. Kuehn St. construction planned By Shanana Rain Golden-Bear On Tuesday, April 9, 2024 the Quartzsite Town Council voted to approve the bid and accept- ed the contract with Paveco Inc for the Keuhn Street Improvement Project. The Town received a total of 6 bids. Paveco was awarded the bid at $815,705.40. Town of Quartzsite Public Works Director Em- mett Brinkerhoff explained the area will be on W. Kuehn Street from Hwy. 95, through the wash and to just west of Q Mountain. Most of it will be 2" mill and fi ll, but through the wash area, it will be a full reconstruction." They will be "elevating the west end of the wash, approximately 4 feet, to reduce the actual channel. We've gone through the Army Corps of Engineers and it's been all approved. There will be 3" of paved area in the wash area." Dale Miller, Town Engineer and Project Man- ager, sent a letter of recommendation stating, "Paveco has successfully completed two pre- vious asphalt paving projects for the Town of Quartzsite. Both projects turned out well and to the satisfaction of the Town, so no further refer- ence checks were made." Brinkerhoff said of Paveco, "These guys have actually done great work for us in the past; re- ally top quality projects." One million dollars had been budgeted for this project, but Brinkerhoff was pleased it came un- der budget. "I believe we are ready to rock and roll with this project!" Paveco shows a start date of April 22nd, (but it may be moved to May 1st) and an overall com- pletion date of June 20, 2024.
