TAU TALK ALPHA TAU OMEGA AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY CELEBRATING 115 YEARS OF BROTHERHOOD G amma Upsilon brothers thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary celebration in November. L ast summer at Alpha Tau Omega's national awards ceremony in Florida, our chapter received our eighth-straight, and 28th overall, True Merit Award. This award is given to the top ATΩ chapters in the nation that display profound leadership, academic excellence, strong discipline, and consistent involvement within the community. We take extreme pride in our continued recognition on a national level, which has created an expectation of winning the True Merit Award every year. Last fall, our chapter earned a GPA of 3.27, which is a 0.11 boost in one year. This ranks fifth among Iowa State fraternities and 19th overall in the Greek community. We believe this comes from our high academic expectations, which require all members to have a minimum GPA of 2.75. This pushes members to meet the requirements so they can be involved in our social events. This exceptional accomplishment reflects our hard work and dedication concerning academics. On March 27, we hosted our annual Cones and Bones philanthropy event at our chapter house. We raised money for the Puppy Jake Foundation, a non-profit that places service dogs with wounded military veterans. We provided a snow cone truck and a dunk tank, and the Puppy Jake Foundation brought a few of their trained dogs for guests to meet and play with. We also had a drawing for a chance to win custom ATΩ x Cones and Bones merchandise. This spring, we are in the running for two IFC awards: one for education and one for accountability. We are confident in our ability to earn these honors. As always, we hope to continue adding to our chapter's decorated resume!
