RETAILOBSERVER.COM APRIL 2024 26 4. INDIVIDUALIZED, INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGY "Color Me Red" which earned Jennifer Hale of Interiors for Modern Living in Palo Alto, California the second-place Secondary Bath category award, is stunning both aesthetically and functionally. While at first glance it's the bold and vibrant red of the space that stands out, this bath is also practical, with its lighted mirror that provides illumination for the face and adds ambient light, as well as a curbless shower and handheld showerhead that make bathing accessible to all ages. Customized tech features like smart toilets, showers and mirrors, living-in-place solutions, and personalized vanities with built-in tech are increasingly popular according to NKBA | KBIS's 2024 Bath Trends Report. CREATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR MAXIMIZING SPACE Removing the tub and replacing it with the shower in this "Sea-Ing Silver" bath by third-place Secondary Bath category winner Heather Radliff of Christopher's Kitchen and Bath in Englewood, Colorado is a move that illustrates a trend identified in the report: using innovative strategies to expand the bath space. Removing the tub to increase shower size, taking down walls to connect to a dressing area/closet, and setting up the toilet in a separate area are space-saving strategies gaining popularity with homeowners. SEAMLESS FLOORING FOR MINIMAL MAINTENANCE One of the most important features of the bath is which tile to use, and in this "Small But Mighty" design by Best Overall Bath winner and first- place Secondary Bath category winner Jaque Bethke of JAQUE in Scottsdale, Arizona, the large-format tiles decorating the floor and walls serve two functions: they make cleaning easier and add texture to the space. In NKBA | KBIS's 2024 Bath Trends report, designers reported that patterned and textured tiles, combined with few or no grout lines reduce upkeep while complementing the minimalist design trend.
