alumni.oxepsilon.org T he first year after graduating college is an interesting one. If you're lucky enough to land a full-time position following your senior year, you will be immediately thrust into the fast-paced working world. No more sleeping in, no more guards to use as alarm clocks, and no more pre-cooked meals. e luxuries of fraternal life are truly that: luxuries. Unfortunately, they are not timeless. For me, it took some adjustment to get used to my new routine, commute, and habits that come with responsibly managing full-time employment. At times I felt lost and questioned if the major I had worked to acquire over the last four years was right for me. I toiled with the decision to make a career change for about a year, finally doing so. At the time of writing this, I will be starting my new position next week and am looking forward to seeing what a new career path can offer. Although I was unhappy in my last position, I used the vast knowledge and connections I had developed to catapult myself into a different vein of engineering. e lesson to take from this is simple: learn from your experiences and grow from them, as you will be able to apply this knowledge base elsewhere. If you are not satisfied with your entry-level position, make a move. Even if you feel like it, you are not trapped at the company that first hired you. It took me a while to develop and act on these realizations. Fortunately, I have Brothers I remain close with and still see almost every weekend, which helped me toward this decision. e power of having a group of like-minded individuals is that we're all in the same boat. We were all adapting to the change in lifestyle that proceeds living at eta Chi. e best part about these weekends is that we can get together over a few beers and talk about anything and everything in our lives. If someone's having a tough time or needs help with something, the Assisting Hand is always within reach. For me, I was lucky enough to receive some great career advice from my Brothers (and offer advice in other departments when I could). ere's no question that the year after graduating is an adjustment period. e biggest takeaway I can summarize to active Brothers is to not take your time for granted. I'm sure you've heard it before, but college truly is the best four years of your life. Make sure to continue making good memories, enjoying great connections with your Brotherhood, and having fun. Getting your degree is pretty important too. You'll need all these things and more after graduation. Good luck to all of you, and continue to improve eta Chi—not only in your college years but as alumni as well. Fraternally, Evan Andrzejewski '22 Sponsor a Brotherhood Dinner P erhaps the most enjoyable aspect of dinners for our alumni is the ability for a class to "sponsor" a dinner. We have multiple dates available for class sponsorship in 2024! All you're responsible for as part of a class sponsorship is picking a restaurant and getting a large portion of your class to attend. In 2023, the classes of 2020 and 2022 each sponsored a dinner, and each class was represented by over 50% of their members! If your class is interested in sponsoring a dinner, please reach out me at cjmurphy@wpi.edu for a list of available dates!
