MARCH 2024 RETAILOBSERVER.COM 39 Color Me Red — This guest bathroom project aimed to create a bold, playful space that exudes a lively spirit. We incorporated vibrant colors, unique forms, and textures to create an immersive, joyful experience that breaks traditional design norms, and seamlessly and imaginatively integrated red – our client's favorite color. Design objectives/challenges included: to design a bathroom as a powder room and guest bath, accommodating extended stays for grandparents and family living abroad; to create a design that aligns with the modern architecture of the home. Design solutions included: relocating the toilet to be out of the line of sight; placing the bold red glass tiles in a flowing pattern to create a visual journey; a lighted mirror to create beautiful ambient light and provides illumination for the face; a wall-mount faucet to provide a fresh modern aesthetic; a curbless shower with a bench and handheld showerhead to make bathing easy for all ages. The result is a bold, playful guest bathroom that breaks traditional design norms. Vibrant colors and unique forms and textures create an immersive and joyful experience for guests and family members. Sea-ing Silver — As the only bathroom on the main level, this room had to act as an awe-inspiring powder bath to the entertaining spaces nearby, as well as a place to wash up near the pool, garage, and first-floor office. The first step toward making the space more useful was to eliminate the bathtub in favor of a shower, as there weren't any main-level bedrooms for the space to serve. Accessibility and ease of use were paramount, as the bathroom would be used by almost every guest of the home. A major benefit on this front was a nearly zero threshold entry to the shower, as guests of all ages may come in to rinse off after swimming. With future accessibility in mind, a bench was added, as well as backing in the appropriate locations for future grab bars. Because the most common use would be as a powder bath, the clients wanted a space that would wow guests and create a memorable experience. The large-format tile on the vanity wall is completely mirrored and designed to replicate the gentle undulations of calm water. The floor-to-ceiling tile enlarges and brightens the space with the help of pops of gold on fixtures and lighting. Tied together with other natural and warm textures of the walnut vanity and floor tile, the space feels both futuristic and bright, though natural and inviting.
