RETAILOBSERVER.COM MARCH 2024 36 FIRST PLACE / PRIMARY BATH Trish Knight & Nicole Varga Knight Varga Interiors Photo: Janis Nicolay Photography Forever Home — This primary ensuite bath was a dream to design! The space is generous and the view across the city is outstanding. This is one room in a residential new build project that we worked on for three years. We were fortunate to have a trusting client that respected and embraced our vision, and they are thrilled with the results. The design needed to create a warm contemporary balance of "His and Hers" likes, needs, and personality in a single room while hiding storage seamlessly for everything from cosmetics to linen and towels. The room needed to function for both parties simultaneously while being sufficiently quiet for one partner to sleep if the other rose early or stayed up late. Taking advantage of the view and the ample natural light while maintaining privacy was also a consideration. DESIGN SOLUTIONS: • For privacy, we had Smart Glass Windows installed with the switch added to the home control system. One touch and the windows go from clear to completely obscured, providing privacy while still allowing light through. • To aid in soundproofing the room, we designed the WC in the corner furthest from the bedroom and added a solid-core white oak door. In the bedroom itself, we clad the shared wall with full-height closed storage and stone slab material. • To address the size of the room, we bumped out a feature wall centered on a large freestanding black tub, ran a floating bench under the window for plants and towels when in the tub, and utilized smoked glass for the shower, giving it a larger presence. • "His and Hers" storage is tucked behind vertically clad floor-to- ceiling white oak columns flanking the floating vanity. Special features include: walls clad in Dekton slabs; smoked glass shower with "His and Hers" handheld showers set to their preferred temperatures; a custom Corian sink and counter integrated as one for a sleek look and ease of cleaning; Smart Glass windows.
