Dave Fiddament "Dave the Bible Reader" La Paz County's election tabulation equipment has been certified for the Presidential Preference Election to be held March 19, 2024. By Shanana Rain Golden-Bear On Thursday, February 15, the La Paz County Elections Department went through a successful Logic and Accuracy Test ahead of the upcom- ing Presidential Preference Election. The event, which takes place before every election, involves staff from the Arizona Secretary of State's Office testing tabulation and accessible voting equipment. The L & A (Logic and Accuracy Test) which was open to the public, was administered at the Board of Supervisors Building in Parker. The Logic and Accuracy tests, required by state law, must be successfully complet- ed before any Arizona voter can cast their ballot and before counties can count any votes. They serve to confirm that all voting machines work prop- erly and meet every state requirement. Arizona State Elections Director Colleen Connor and Lisa Marra, Deputy Director of Elections, explained how the test worked and answered ques- tions from those in attendance. The team flew in to Parker to administer testing of the Election Tabulators, a requirement for all counties ahead of the March 19th Presidential Preference Election. The team also tested tabulators in Yuma County and Mohave County the same day. Connor said La Paz County Elections Director Bob Bartelsmeyer and his team "have been testing all the machines for every selection, every political party, to make sure everything is accurate. We arrive and do a 'pop quiz.' Bob has no idea what we're going to test." She explained the state compiles a packet of test ballots, and announced the test for La Paz County included Early Ballots, Election Day Ballots and Provisional Ballots. "We do reliable samples testing, such as the accessible voting devises, for the physically impaired." said Connor. "At the end, we check the numbers and compare what we find, verify the test, and make sure everything is ac- curate." Connor explained, any ballot that is blank or with unclear marks or an overvote get kicks to the top for hu- man review. (An overvote is when one votes for more than the maxi- mum number of selections allowed in a contest. The result is a spoiled vote which is not included in the fi- nal tally.) Duce Minor was the representative for the La Paz County Republican Party and John Hoge was the repre- sentative for La Paz County Demo- cratic Party. La Paz County passed and Elec- tions Director Bob Bartelsmeyer was presented with certificate from the Secretary of State's office.
