NEWS Big Red Island Big Red Island Beta Theta Pi at Oklahoma State University / Spring 2024 EXCITING EVENTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS HIGHLIGHT 2023 W hat a year 2023 has been for our Beta Chapter at Oklahoma State! We pride ourselves in being a balanced fraternity in all our endeavors. The outcomes of those endeavors demonstrate that we are living as Men of Principle as stated in the Mission Statement of our General Fraternity. The year kicked off with our 100th anniversary celebration, and more than 400 brothers were in attendance. If you didn't attend the event or didn't see the spring Big Red Island (BRI) newsletter, contact us (see page 8) and we'll send you the link to that 12-page BRI with approximately 90 pictures of the evening. This current newsletter highlights some of our fall events. The chapter president's report from Matthew Muller '26 is on page 2. Read about the activities in sports, shows, Homecoming, and the results of the academic competition. The grade points continue to be incredible—183 brothers and pledges can make a GPA of 3.52. Amazing! Achievements in academic efforts plus participation in all the other activities give us a warm feeling. Today's Greek community that pairs fraternities and sororities together on Homecoming decorations, Freshman Follies, Varsity Revue, and Spring Sing contributes to the bonding of brothers and builds relationships with sorority members. SISSON AWARD As noted in the president's report, our chapter won a Sisson Award at the August national convention. The criteria for this award are listed on page 7. In the write-up, you can see the award is calculated based on chapter performance and data on current operations. The award focuses on personal growth, academics, leadership, lifelong friendships, and a fulfilling college experience. DONOR WALL On page 8, there is a small picture of the donor wall that was constructed this past fall. The participation of donors was greatly appreciated as we undertook the construction of our new house. We still have debt to service and ongoing property cleaning, facility maintenance, etc. Reducing debt further can contribute to reducing house bills, targeting specific property maintenance projects, and providing opportunities for partial housing scholarships. If a brother or friend of Beta is considering another gift for reducing our debt, please contact a Building Corp member or a BRI editor (see the top of page 8 for sending or receiving contact information). As with most newsletters, you will see several pictures of low to high roll number brothers enjoying themselves. When you read the newsletter, hopefully you'll feel that our legacy as a strong fraternity at OSU continues to flourish. Read, look, and enjoy! Yours in _kai_, Larry Maguire '65 Greg Colpitts '88
