To commemorate becoming the first Tau Kappa Epsilon Chapter with 2,500 members, Epsilon has selected Ethan Anderson '23 E-2500 to carry this honor as a milestone initiate. Ethan's Background Raised abroad by parents serving as medical missionaries, Ethan had a unique upbringing. He grew up in areas of Southeast Asia and East Africa, gaining a much different perspective of the world than a lot of Tekes. "Living in different places and cultures showed me there are many ways to live life," Ethan said. He witnessed kindness and generosity that went beyond material belongings and cultural boundaries. "It showed me that we've been given this big, beautiful world, so why not see as much of it as we can and impact it for the better." TKE's Influence As a young man at Iowa State University, Ethan was introduced to TKE by Roger Underwood '76 E-1239. Roger saw great promise in Ethan as he strived to recruit the brightest Fraters possible. "As much as he influenced me and my decision, the defining factor was the quality of guys who joined TKE before me," Ethan said. He knew a few members who were upperclassmen at his high school, and Ethan recognized a positive shift in their traits as Tekes. "When I compared them to their younger selves, I saw nothing but good qualities maintained or strengthened." Ambitions as a Frater Ethan is pursuing business studies with a dream of starting and owning his own business in the future. In his spare time, he enjoys bonding with friends, downhill skiing, and fixing up his car, a 1988 Merkur XR4Ti. Tau Kappa Epsilon's values are already helping Ethan focus on bettering himself for the future. His initiation at this point in Epsilon Chapter's history places him in the footsteps of 2,499 Tekes before him, and he looks forward to leaving his mark. "I am very honored to serve as a bookmark in Epsilon Chapter's history book," Ethan added. "It is an honor to join because of all the men who came before and built it into what it is today. The milestone of 2,500 members accentuates the legacy that TKE, and Epsilon Chapter specifically, has created." Epsilon Chapter is glad to have such a bright young man marking this milestone in our history, and we look forward to seeing what Ethan can accomplish as a Teke.
