CHAPTER ETERNAL Fall 2023 MANIFESTO MANIFESTO Roger Koehler '70 entered Chapter Eternal on July 1, 2022. I had no idea he had been ill for so long, but he took the time to participate in our housing survey. I spoke with him several times and he never complained about his illness. He once worked as an admissions recruiter for Bradley University and then as a sales engineer for Sanders Tools. Later, he was the owner/operator of Basement Connections. John Niklewicz '91 entered Chapter Eternal on June 2, 2023. John was greatly beloved by anyone who met him. He was known as a great listener, sometimes stoic, but loved playing in his band as well. No one ever heard him say a bad word about anyone, and for that matter, no one ever said a bad word about John. John worked for Underwriters Laboratories as an engineer/manager for 31 years. He leaves behind his beautiful wife, Paula, and daughters Emily and Julia. To make things worse, John lost his younger brother three years earlier, David Niklewicz '94. Andrey Pilipchak '91 entered Chapter Eternal on September 26, 2022. While at Bradley, Andrey studied engineering and later started his own company, PriceScope Inc. He le behind two sons, Ayden and Bryce. Andrey was known as the happiest, most playful of his pledge class, and he was a very positive person in general. Andrey passed very suddenly of a heart attack while working with his son on his father's home. Sean DonCarlos '03 entered Chapter Eternal on April 22, 2023. Sean went over and above the call of duty not only to Gamma Upsilon, but also to our fraternity on a national level, and was recognized for his efforts. Mike Mayer, CEO of eta Chi International Headquarters, provided a note acknowledging Sean's accomplishments as a brother on the international level and shared: "e Fraternity is proud to announce Sean DonCarlos as a recipient of the Earl D. Rhodes eta Chi for Life Award. Brother DonCarlos earned a full scholarship to Bradley University and served as president of Gamma Upsilon. Following graduation, he spent 12 years as chapter advisor and six years on its chapter advisory board. At the international level, Sean served on the foundation chapter's scholarship selection committee for seven years and had recently been named its chairman. He consistently attended fraternity events, including conventions, where he provided wisdom to attendees young and old. Sean was a generous donor to the foundation chapter. In 2018, he was named one of the top 40 donors under 40. He is the youngest brother in our history to have given $25,000 or more to benefit collegiate brothers. Sean is a recipient of the Citation of Honor and the George T. Kilavos Alumni Award, both from Gamma Upsilon Alumni Corporation, and the David E. DeVol Award presented in 2012. Brother DonCarlos was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness, and the fraternity wanted to recognize him for his lifetime of service. Lifetime can take on different meanings and can be varying lengths. What has been constant is Brother DonCarlos' helping hand at the local, regional, and international levels. As Sean reflected, he noted: "I feel I have lived more in 41 years than most men do given 80." e Resolute Men of eta Chi Fraternity are better for those 41 years, Sean, and wish that we could have had 80. We salute and honor you, and we continue to walk beside you. You are a eta Chi for life. Sean was not around when I was an undergraduate, but I had the privilege of getting to know him later. He always seemed like such an intelligent young man who loved to debate and hear both sides. at carried over as an alumnus. He loved being part of the chapter advisory board. He was always a calming factor, most likely because of his listening skills and intelligence, and when he said he'd do something, he did it. Don't get me wrong, Sean was no saint! His pledge brothers will be chuckling now. He loved his cocktails, cool Asian weapons, and even fun with explosives. But Sean did know what he was doing. You had to know Sean to understand. For any of you who like to drink an interesting cocktail, Sean literally wrote the book on this topic. He invented some cocktails while improving on old recipes. He did not publish it on paper, but it can be found electronically. If you are interested, contact me at md961203@yahoo.com.
