STANFORD UNIVERSITY FALL 2023 Updates from California Pi Greetings, Cal Pi alumni! We are excited to be kicking off our partnership with Pennington & Company to send out a chapter newsletter twice a year. We hope you will enjoy hearing chapter updates and news about your fellow alumni more consistently; this has been a targeted area for improvement in our operations for years. Many of you received our call for help back in September 2020, when the chapter was on the ropes with fewer than 20 men and a mountain of outstanding debt. You responded in force, with more than 40 of you collectively donating in excess of $7,500! TODAY'S MEMBERSHIP Not only did you save our chapter, but now it is also thriving. The undergraduates ended last year in the top three fraternities on campus alongside KA and Kappa Sig in terms of active brothers. They started out this school year with 84 men and will likely exceed 120 after spring recruitment. Meanwhile, they boast the same obscenely high GPA that you all probably remember. (Currently averaging 3.76—how is that even possible!?) The chapter remains housed at 1047 Campus Drive (the old SAE house with the golden lions still out front). We were surprised to learn the house has a larger capacity at 55 beds than the imposing Sigma Nu house on the row with 42. They have also applied to become an accredited SigEp Learning Community, formerly the RLC program, which is now a prerequisite to winning a Buchanan Cup. The chapter last won a Buc Cup at the 2013 Conclave, and we hope to bring home the hardware again soon. ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT In addition to more frequent communication with you all, we plan to increase the number of events held on campus for alumni. The chapter hosted alumni in town for Reunion Homecoming, and a good number of brothers stopped by, including a particularly strong showing from pledge class Zeta (class of '93). Recently, we also co-hosted a Big Game alumni tailgate with the Berkeley SigEp alumni. In the coming years, we anticipate organizing career panels, life- after-college speaker events, Founders' Day softball games, and much more. Fraternally, The California Pi Alumni Board Checking in with California Pi New OppOrtuNities fOr CONNeCtiONs H ello to our alumni! In a rapidly evolving collegiate landscape, California Pi continues to stand out as a beacon of excellence at Stanford. This report serves as a testament to our dedication to leadership, scholarship, philanthropy, and community involvement during the last academic year. ACADEMIC SUCCESS Our commitment to academic success has been unwavering. With a chapter GPA of 3.76, this puts us at what we believe is the top spot amongst SigEps in the country! Notably, VP of Finances Benjamin Przybocki '24 was a recipient of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, a prestigious national scholarship in mathematics. PHILANTHROPY EFFORTS At the core of our mission, giving back to the community remains a significant aspect of our chapter's identity. In the past year, we engaged in 500+ service hours through various volunteering opportunities. One of our favorites has become Stanford's annual Powwow, where we help with cleanup after the event. CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT Our members have been deeply engaged, representing our commitment to being well-rounded individuals. Notably, brother Akash Gupta '25 served as president of the Sports Analytics Club, demonstrating his leadership skills and our involvement in the wider campus community. RECENT EVENTS Our signature White Lies event attracted more than 1,500 participants and generated an incredible buzz on campus. It was an unforgettable experience that epitomizes our dedication to fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus culture. Meanwhile, we have demonstrated a continued commitment to risk management and safety. This is evidenced by the creation of a new role, the violence, intervention, and prevention chairman, currently held by Danny Goldberg '25. AN SLC CHAPTER Our house was recently granted a conditional acceptance as one of a handful of SigEp Learning Communities across the country. This means we have created a powerful living/learning environment, which speaks to our commitment to excellence and the high standards we uphold. SigEp at Stanford has thrived in every aspect of Greek life and beyond. With a focus on academic achievement, philanthropy, campus involvement, and remarkable events, we are poised to continue our legacy of excellence in the years ahead. Our members, led by a dedicated executive board, are committed to making a positive impact on campus and beyond, embodying the values and principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love that define our fraternity. Since this is my last quarter as president, this may be the last time you hear from me. But don't be a stranger! Please feel free to reach out to me via my contact information below.
