100 YEARS OF LEADERSHIP BETA BETA CHAPTER of ALPHA PHI at MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY Fall 2023 The Ivy The Ivy 2023 2023 has been another banner year for Beta Beta! We celebrated our incredible Centennial with many of you last fall, and this year during Homecoming weekend, we celebrated 100 years at MSU with an equally important event. Two years ago, we applied and worked for months to ultimately be approved for a State of Michigan historical marker through the Michigan Department of National Resources. On Saturday, September 23, we unveiled our historical marker at an event with notable guests and speakers. We were honored to have MSU Interim President Dr. Teresa Woodruff and Dr. Delia Fernandez-Jones, a Michigan Historical Society representative and MSU faculty member, join us for the occasion. Both spoke glowingly of Beta Beta's rich and deep history of women's leadership at a time when women were fighting for basic rights. As we learned, women were not even allowed to gather 100 years ago, so our organization was unique, first as the Feronian Society in 1891 and then as the Beta Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi in 1922. Both women applauded our past, present, and future as an enduring presence to be celebrated on MSU's campus. We were pleased to also have HCB members present along with many active members who were able to see firsthand how Beta Beta has left a legacy of leadership on campus. They helped us unwrap the marker and surely felt a special sense of pride as they witnessed this testament to our 100-year history. Thank you, Lorie Fiesselmann Dietz '75, for planning and organizing our beautiful program.
