When God made man, he placed him in a perfect environment, but something was missing. He had everything he physically needed, and yet he was alone. He allowed man to search the entire animal kingdom for a suitable companion and yet there was none to be found. It was then that he took a rib from Adam and created Eve, thus the beginning of all human relationships. Humanity was complete. Our world is based upon relationships. Whether it be marital, parental, familial, platonic, work related or some other type of relationship, we all have a divinely placed inner need to belong. First and foremost, the necessities of our spiritual and emotional health will be found in an intimate relationship with God. As we fi nd our identity in God, then we will be free to relate to others properly. Relationships founded in any other order will lead to unfulfi lled expectations and disappointment. No person can ever fulfi ll our basic need for God. Relationships are built on faith, trust and ultimately love. The deeper a relationship grows, the more emotionally invested we become. We must understand that because of the fall of man, we are all fl awed. Our shortcomings often cause relationships to get complicated and diffi cult. Therefore, having a close relationship with God will enable us to be loving, patient, kind and forgiving. There is no doubt that the greatest need in our life is to relate to God and with those who are a part of our life. Without relationships we are, at best, only surviving.
