"The trail was made possible thanks to a partnership between the Town of Lake Lure and the Carolina Climbers Coalition, as well as generous sponsors, including the Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority and RHI Legacy Foundation," said Dana Bradley, Parks, Recreation and Trails Coordinator for the Town of Lake Lure. The Carolina Climbers Coalition installed the new trail to increase bouldering opportunities within Buffalo Creek Park. The new trail was installed entirely by hand by the Carolina Climber's Coalition with the help of amazing volunteers, including young people from YouthWorks. The new trail section is 1.5 miles long and is an out-and-back trail. There are many bouldering opportunities along the trail, along with scenic creeks, and a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains at the top. The new trail is open for foot traffi c only and is located on the north side of the Buffalo Creek Park Trail. The parking lot is located at 2191 Buffalo Creek Road in Lake Lure. This trail is rated as moderate to strenuous, due to the terrain. "We are so thankful to Mike Reardon with the Carolina Climber's, his staff, volunteers from the community, and everyone else that donated their time and effort to construct this new trail," said Bradley. "I hope everyone has a chance to visit soon." Article Provided By: Jean Gordon. Dana Bradley Photos. Upper Boulders Trail in Lake Lure open Gabriella Isaac and Dana Bradley at Buffalo Creek Park. NCDHHS has received a four-year grant totaling $14.8 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to support the mental health of children and families in North Carolina. The grant comes at a time when children and youth are facing an urgent mental health crisis. During the pandemic, the rate of children in North Carolina discharged from an emergency department with a behavioral health condition increased by 70%. In 2021, about one in fi ve North Carolina adolescents seriously considered taking their own lives. The $14.8 million SAMHSA grant enhances the NC System of Care to ensure more children have access to High-Fidelity Wraparound services, which help children and families before, during and after a crisis. The money will be used to bolster the efforts of county departments of social services, the NC Department of Public Safety-Division of Juvenile Justice, local schools and community groups. More information on the NC System of Care can be found on the NCDHHS website.
