Class will start Friday, January 5, 2024 at 1800 hours. Must pos- sess a high school diploma or GED. Must be willing to participate in fi t- ness training. Classes will run two days per week (Friday & Saturday). Academy will occur mainly at QFD Station 33. Graduates will receive IFSAC Certifi cation in 6 months. Applicants who aren't EMT Certi- fi ed will need to take the Emergen- cy medical Responder Class to cer- tify, which will be held at QFD on Thursday nights. Fire Academy course November brings the start of the winter season at the museum. We will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM. We are excited to announce that thanks to Curt and Kendra Giebler, of Grace- land Portable Buildings, our neigh- bors next door, we will have a little bit of additional parking! The ad- ditional parking will be behind the museum property and is accessed by entering our driveway on the east side of the museum, 161 W Main St, and continuing through to the back. Do you like to decorate for Christmas? We are having a Barretts Village Christmas Decorating Contest! We invite individuals, families, groups, anyone interested to choose a build- ing in Walter Barretts Village and decorate it for Christmas. You can start decorating the second week of November and must be fi nished by December 1, 2023. We will ask visi- tors to the museum during Decem- ber to vote for their favorites. On January 3, 2024, the top 3 winners will be announced on the Quartzsite Historical Society Facebook page. You can enter the contest at the museum offi ce and pick a house to decorate starting November 1. Join us for Halloween at the Mu- seum on Friday October 27th at 5:30 pm. This will be a spook- tacular start for our season. We are making hobo stew for a meal at the party. Please bring 2 cans of food with you, 1 can to be used in prepar- ing the stew and the 2nd can as a do- nation to Friends of Quartzsite food pantry. We will have beverages and other dishes to go with the stew as well as dessert which Coyote Fresh will be preparing. Join us for a fun night of food, drink and some ghost stories. We will also share some of the great times we have volunteer- ing at the museum and hope some of you might like to join us. Museum Happenings That is just to start off the season,we are planning on a fun open house every month and are hoping that we can have a karaoke night and maybe an open mike comedy night at two of our open houses. We will be offering reservation times for Dinner at the Museum a couple of times each month. Coyote Fresh will be preparing the meals and we will have a few options to choose from for your special night at the museum. February will arrive after the whirl- wind of January and it will be time for the ghosts of our early pioneers to come to life and tell you their stories during the Walk in the Past Pageant at the Hi Jolly Cemetery. Rounding out the season in March will be our 3rd Annual Senior Prom at the Senior Center. I hear that the theme for this year will make this a super fun night! Senior Center Craft shows The public is encouraged to attennd the monthly Quartzsite Town Man- ager's Meetings, which will be held at 1:00pm on the Wednesday im- mediately following the FIRST Town Council Meeting of every month, usually the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
