with manufacturers to test the suitability of each product in advance. "In our test series, we were able to verify with the products used that each individual piece produced during running production has tiny, undetectable differences. Even mass-produced products often have minimal differences in material details. The optical data for each individual piece of a series can be quickly registered in the Origify system; the verification process just takes a few seconds using an app and a suitable smartphone. Further, the creation of the product as an individual piece is traceable," said Bosch's Oliver Steinbis. Traceability is not only important for many manufacturers in the wake of increasing sustainability demands. It can additionally help with traceability in the event of a sale outside the authorized trade or supply chains. AUTHENTICATION VIA APP AND SMARTPHONE Optical capture can also be integrated in an industrial manufacturing process. The complete application solution includes hardware for initial capture, a data service using a dedicated data cloud, and an app for verification using a suitable smartphone. The initial capture of a product is performed by a special camera system. Using an algorithm, the high-resolution image data sets are automatically processed into tamper-proof data packets and securely stored in a cloud. All that is needed to recognize the captured products is a camera-equipped smartphone with the Origify application installed. Additionally, the Origify SDK can be integrated into an in-house app. The tamper-proof cloud is accessed via the app and the data set is compared with the image from the smartphone's camera. In the event of a discrepancy, an immediate deep-check can be carried out. To perform the described authenticity check via Origify, the entire solution can be integrated in a production environment, and also at the point of sale (POS) or in a service workshop. Additionally, the application can be made available in selected countries as a consumer version or integrated into manufacturers' applications. Origify by Bosch is a solution for authenticating and tracking a wide range of products. It works invisibly, without interfering with a product's design. A special camera system captures selected unique features of a product that are invisible to the human eye, then stores the data set in a tamper-proof cloud, and enables verification of authenticity using a smartphone app. No additional marking of the product is required – Origify automatically develops a digital fingerprint from the image dataset. The solution platform can be integrated into manufacturing, point-of-sale, or service environments. In addition to the authenticity of their manufactured goods, companies can also track products in the supply chain and detect possible deviations.
