An election of officers was held for board and executive board positions, and all incumbents were voted again into office for another term. The Quartzsite Business Chamber has been very successful since it first formed six years ago. Their main focus has always been the promotion of its member businesses, who not only have to compete with hundreds of vendors during the season, but also have to survive the hot summers here when business is not as good. They also give out all kinds of information to visitors to this area who are looking for things to do and want to know what is available in the area. They have given out thousands of flyers about events, schedules, and maps, including brochures to many other Chamber and Visitor Centers in the country. They have produced and printed a Business locater map that shows every business in Quartzsite, and are working on updating their Business directory for this coming season. "The success of our Business Chamber is due to our member businesses who have shown us their support for the past 6 years," states President Cee Carnevale. "We have had some very successful events like the Christmas Light Parade, Chili Cookoff, bringing the circus to town twice, helping with the American Veterans Travelling Tribute, Walk for the Innocent, Club Fair, and more. Our member businesses have always been very supportive of our efforts, and we cannot thank them enough." The Business Chamber also supports both the elementary school and high school by advertising in their yearbooks and participating in the Halloween Caravan each year. Despite rumors that they should join the other Chamber and merge, this is not even a remote possibility, since several years ago it was voted into their by-laws that they would never merge with another entity and wished to remain independent. Their membership consists totally of business men and women, with only a few individuals who help by making up some of the volunteers. All decisions voted on by the Board of Directors must be ratified by the general membership before being adopted. They now represent over 200 businesses in the area. Congratulations on 6 years of good work!! Quartzsite Business Chamber celebrates 6th Anniversary SPECIAL SECTION M P 5 King of Arizona Realty By Joanne Winer A few weeks ago, I was called by one of the leaders of our local Boy Scout troops, who asked me if they could add something to Celia's Rainbow Gardens. The Boy Scouts had worked very hard to make some birdhouses as part of their badge program, and wanted to have them placed in a tree somewhere in the Gardens. On March 22, we met at the entrance of the Gardens, and the Boy Scouts decided that the birdhouses should all go in one tree near the path at the fountain area. Their troop leaders were there to help them get the birdhouses into the upper branches. These birdhouses were made by the Boy Scouts in groups of two to each birdhouse, and are very colorful and a wonderful addition to the Gardens. The boys then walked along the trails My Garden Angels with their leaders and picked up any trash that they found. They did an great job, and have expressed an interest in continuing to work towards some other badges by doing more in the future in the Gardens. We really appreciate all the efforts that they have put out, and hope to have them participate in any way they would like. A special thanks to their scout leaders for thinking of this project and for getting their boys involved in Celia's Rainbow Gardens!
