28 www.DesertMessenger.com September 20, 2023 World's Largest Self-Propelled Whole Hog Rotesserie Arrives in Quartzsite! Glen Hamilton, of Wasilla, Alaska, and owner of Whole Hog or None Bar- beque introduces his built-by-hand 57 ft. propane-fueled grill and rotisserie shaped like a locomotive to the town of Quartzsite! The matching coal car houses everything necessary to serve from the kitchen. At the Alaska Gov- ernor's Picnic, Hamilton and his crew served up 3,000 people in only 2 1/2 hours. The train and coal car is self-pro- pelled by a 400 horse-powered one- ton Chevy engine and chassis. How- ever, Hamilton says, "the smoke stack and whistle in front make it hard to see clearly at highway speeds." Whole Hog or None Barbeque is parked for the season right off Main Street behind Main Street Trading Post, across from Pilot. Whole Hog or None Barbeque is now open seven days a week, serv- ing breakfast all day, with a grill that cooks up great hotcakes! Folks look- ing for a good deal have already found the unique eatery. Hamilton states he plans on serving hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches and full dinners. While eating you are sure to get lots of stories from the retired welder and fabricator who built the train by hand. Be sure to ask about the badger! You might even get a chance to hear the train whistle blow! Bob Kelley, Newly Appointed Town Council Member Town Council Member Town Council Member "I'm not a 'Yes Man' and I want to get rid of the negative image of Quartzsite!" QUARTZSITE- In a special session of the Quartzsite Town Council, Fri- day, October 24, 2008, Bob Kelley was voted in as the new member of the Town Council. The vacancy occured after Steve Bennett resigned his position as mayor and Vice Mayor Chuck Busby was installed as mayor. Town Hall advertised for applicants and nine residents applied for the position. Eight of the nine appeared in person, at the special session (one sent a letter). Each applicant was given three minutes to speak. After hearing all applicants, the Town Council voted 4-2 for Bob Kelley. Bob Kelley has resided in Quartzsite permanently for the past 18 years, with 26 total years of living and visiting the area. Most noteable, Kelley was instrumental in helping to acquire town water for the residents of Q Mountain Mobile Home & RV Subdivision. After working with the vari- ous departments of the town on the project, Kelley became inspired to apply for the Town Council vacancy. Trips to the mall and holiday meal planning seem to occur earlier and earlier each year. All these wonderful plans keep people busy too busy, sometimes, to donate blood. "We encourage people to donate blood once more before the end of the year. And donating in November is a great way to start the holiday season because it reminds us that one person can truly make a difference," said Janice Dunnington, United Blood Services Donor Re- cruitment Manager. It takes approximately 280 blood donations each day to keep up with our local hospital patients' needs. As we know, hospitals don't close for the holidays," Dunnington said. "The blood you donate now can save some- one's life during the holidays. Is there any other better gift to give?" Potential donors can make an ap- pointment at one of the local area blood drives at the Parker Community Senior Center, Lake Havasu High school or Bouse Elementary school.
